Went through my pre-op today and everything is a go for next week with Dr. Brooks and my second BHR.  I am glad I am only an hour from Cleveland Clinic.  Met Jim & Doug today, both new hippy's at 6 weeks, and turned them on to this website.

Learned that Dr. Brooks completed number 1500 yesterday which puts him in a pretty elite group. I met with his PA, Phil, and he said that the procedure only takes an hour( I thought it was at least 1-1/2 hours when I had my other one done).  Ask about metal ion levels and he said they do not check them unless you are having a problem.  No staples this time but internal stitches and glue.

I also have to wipe my body down from head to toe the night before with 6 different anti-bacterial wipes 1 hour after I shower.   They will do it again just before the procedure.  Also swabbed the inside of my nose looking for staff.

Nice job on the Hippie recruitment  ???, oh and also with the pre-op.  That sounds great.  Sounds like you're feeling really comfortable and confident with it all.  That's a great place to be.  Being a veteran helps with some of the pre-op jitters.  Looking forward to the recovery posts.

See, if you'd have had them both done the first time, you wouldn't have to do all that swiping and swabbing now.

Just kidding, best of luck with the surgery.

Fence,

Do you know what number your first one with Brooks was?  Mine were both in the 1200's.

Best regards for a smooth and uneventful stay by the lake, and a routine recovery.  Those wipes are funky feeling on the skin but the infection rate is so incredibly low with his patients I didn't mind.

Not sure if you had to do the anti clot shots after your first one, he now uses the pneumatic leg stocking things to prevent clots, noisy but certainly not as bad as the needles.   My incisions have healed nicely, the glue and strips seemed to hold it together well.  Still getting progressively better on both sides, and have my 1 year followup in 2 weeks for both sides (14 months and 10 months ago) with Phil -- he scheduled them on one day to avoid 2 visits.  I could not be more pleased about the outcome on both sides, he does an incredible job with these procedures.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Dan, I think I was in the 600's on my first.  I believe the the recommendation at that time was to find someone who had done over 300 procedures.

I did ask for a lake front room and they said I have to be real nice to the Admission Lady.

I had both of mine done by Dr Brooks - I also live in Cleveland but do not have a lake view at my house - so there are some advantages about using the Clinic.  Hope the recovery is going well.

Fence,

My wife got a good laugh out of the admission lady comment.  She retired from Euclid a couple months ago, and was my "contact" to get a good view when I had mine there.  I also greased the skids by plying the nursing staff on the 5th floor with a large box of Malleys between #1 and #2, so they remembered me 4 months later.

The care there, all contacts aside, was a big part of making the stay as easy as possible afterwards.  The main campus care is much different.

Looks like I will be stopping to get donuts on Wed on my way there.  Had my other hip done at Main Campus and care during week was better than during weekend.

My wife and I are dealing with a cold right now and both are trying to get healthy before surgery.  She has to feel good so she can take care of me.  :)
