Good luck. I just had my right hip resurfaced this morning with Dr. Mont in Baltimore Maryland. He put in a Corin cornet implant. I've have pain from arthritis for the past 5 years and have lost a lot of range of motion and annoying groin pain. Surgery went great. I had a spinal and when I woke up after I was totally coherent and could have a normal conversation. Took my first steps at 4 pm today and now sitting upright in a chair. Spinal may not be totally out of my system but I had no groin pain with my first steps. Only pain is muscle pain that every one talks about.

11/8/12 update: day after surgery. Had my catheter removed this morning (pain free thank god).  PT had me doing exercises and I waked about 300 feet and learned how to do steps. No groin pain whatsoever which is an unbelievable feeling. Only pain is muscle and incision pain when I walk and do the exercises. Dr. Mont and David Mowry (Dr. Mont's PA who does every surgery with him) were awesome. All the staff have been great here at Sinai hospital in Baltimore. I am from the Philadelphia, PA area and went to see two other orthopedics in my area and they both wanted to do the resurfacing but they had only done around 50 resurfacings. I believe Dr. Mont has done over 3500 of them so it was an easy decision to drive 90 minutes to Baltimore. I am 44 years old and have had hip arthritis for about 5 years and had lost a lot of range of motion in my right hip and very hard to tie a shoe, put a sock on etc along with constant annoying groin pain.   For those that are second guessing yourself about the surgery, DON'T. I can't wait to get out on the soccer and lacrosse fields with my kids which is something that has been very limited over the past few years. If I can answer any other questions about Dr. Mont feel free to ask.

Indeed Dr. Mont is well known and has tons of experience.  Sounds like you made a good choice.  Pretty awesome feeling to be able to walk and not have pain.  Can't say I had the same experience with the cath.  Something wasn't quite right with mine on the first surgery.  "On the count of three, you breathe out and I'll pull on the catheter, says the nurse,  "1,..."yank.   Ugh!

Congrats, and remember to get the digestion back in shape after all the meds.

Sounds like it's going great, keep it up. You'll hit some steps back, but overall awesome.

Tin - YIKES! I'm glad I avoided the catheter both times.

11/9 update:  got out of the hospital today at 12:30. Still feeling very good. Physical therapist told me this morning that I was the easiest patient she had in a very long time. I'm able to do all of the exercises prescribed with very little pain. It's almost too good to e true. I'm just waiting for a setback but hopefully it will not come. I know not to push it so planning to work at home the next 5 weeks.

Sounds great.  I had very little pain also.  Some aren't so fortunate, but it is weird to think about what they did to you and not really have much pain.  Take r easy, that's the best plan for the next few weeks.

Well my setback came earlier this week and had nothing to do with my hip.  What first was thought to be a rash brought on by a reaction to the oxycodone turned out to be a case of Shingles. Needless to say it hasn't been a fun week but yesterday was the first day I felt a little better. Just going to take a while to heal. Hip recovery is still going well and made it outside for a walk with my son yesterday. (10 days as a hippy).

Bummer, Scott - as a previous owner of shingles, it's not fun at all. It will pass, though - glad that the hip is doing well.

6 week update- Hip is doing great.  Just finished my 2nd week of physical therapy (going 3 days a week).  I've been walking without a cane for 3 weeks.  I'm able to ride a stationary bike and do the eliptical machine.  Therapist is limiting my time on them for now but I have very little pain after PT and I barely have a limp present.  I'm still dealing with the Shingles and the pain associated with them is still unbearable at times.  Hopefully the pain subsides soon but some cases takes months to heals.  Hope everyone has a great holiday.

Scott, that's great about the hip. Sounds like everything is going really well with it, keep the good work up.

When I got the shingles, it was pretty pronounced - it took me about five weeks for everything to stop, but most of the discomfort went down about four weeks down the road.

The shingles haven't come back for me since (about twenty years), it'll clear up and the hip will still be awesome.
