I recall with my first hip resurfacing the leg was too long and balanced out within 1/2 cm but this time I had a total hip replacement and 2 weeks post op and leg is 1 3/4 inch longer!!
I cant remember how long it took to even out but I am feeling a bit of panick. Anyone else have issues??

Tin Soldier

I don't recall what length differences I had, but my PT was checking it a bit.  Although he wasn't much of a believer in true leg length changes.  1 3/4" seems like a lot and hopefully that is just your pelvis angle and back, and everything else... trying to adjust.  If you had a significant limp before surgery, you might take a while to even out.  You might ask the doc about the THR and the possibility of depth of the shaft in relationship to the femor, being the source of some of that length.  I would think surgeons would be pretty good about trying to match sides, but then I don't really know.  Hope you get some answers.

1 3/4s of an inch sounds like a lot. I know with THRs they can sometimes be off on the lengths but that sounds extreme to me.

How much weight have you put on your new hip?

I am walking unassisted. It is very unbalanced with the leg being so long. Frustrating!!  I have apt for follow up Jan 17th so hope to get some answers.

Be very to the point, if you do not get answers that you think sound reasonable I would get a 2nd opinion.

My 54 yo aunt had total hip and had difficulty in recovery. She discovered a large length difference. The doc just prescribed lifts inside her other shoe.

I hope you get answers.

My first BHR my leg felt longer for at least 6 week but then evened out after the swelling went down.

My Dad's 1st THR was 1" too long. He had to wear shoes with special soles until they did his other hip 4 years later.  They were able to balance it out by adding to the new tHR.

My HR turned out almost 3/4 of an inch longer than my non operated leg. I have learned to live with it, using special shoes ( a cobbler adjusted) with extra sole added to make up the difference. Works quite well! Good luck!
