Hi folks,
Ceased taking painkillers 2 days ago .tramadol, slow release and 12 hour. So far so good. My stomacher hasn't been the best of late and now taking fibre supplements to get things moving. Had enough of the blasted things and into the habit of just having them. Considering this time last year I was just toughing it out and then had a cortisone shot( never again). Since Dec 12 taking Panadol osteo and tramadol slow release and tramadol instant. Still not feeling overly flash.Dont know whether or not there are withdrawal effects with these but will see if surgeon can prescribe something if necessary that I can take instead. The impression I have been given is cessation of all painkillers 10 days before surgery.

Dental checkup yesterday (long overdue) and advised anti biotic so to be taken lifelong depending on procedure performed on mouth. With fillings antibiotics not needed but for a simple clean and polish yes. Why is this applicable for the hip joint?  Roll on November 11

Infections at the site can cause the prosthesis to fail. One of the things thought to be effective in preventing this is antibiotics administered before dental procedures.

My surgeon follows this, so I do as well. It's not a universally supported idea, though:

so as with anything else, your surgeon's prescription should be followed.
