Hi all-
I am six days into the new group of hippies and feel I am doing well.  I scanned the massages everyone has posted on what has happened and worked for them.

I am on the walker with the intention to get to one crutch this week and am really trying to focus on using the walker as an accessory not a necessity but not ready to give it up yet.   I am willing to do what it takes to have healthy hips, not win awards for being tough.  I see some of you are mandatory six weeks on crutches.  I have the option to double crutch for a week, single crutch then cane each week after.

I have had two previous ACL repairs and came away from the pain meds with in three days so I am trying to get to one pill every four hours but find it hurts when the time rolls around and pop two. I tried one once and watched the clock the last hour.  I think I have decided that minimal pain is better than fighting through the pain (stubborn girl here).  Any ideas on use of the pain pills?  I guess when it feels comfortable enough go to one but I am nervous of pain hindering my gait or ambulation. Last thing I need is uncontrolled pain causing me to fall.

I am finding the pain intensity, location and type moves throughout the day.  Anyone experience the lateral hamstring cramping?  Wow.

Icing while up. Got all my long summer dresses out and looking quite stylish with the TED hose option.  Keep your eyes open, sure to be a red carpet look this spring.

As for good ideas, I lived in boxers with all other surgeries so those are grand to own.  We have several active friends who have loaned us their injury "gear" and I am using a walker for the toilet, no riser on the seat.

Anyone have to try and recover one hip with the pain of the other one getting worse daily?  I am scheduled in 5 weeks for the second unless I can convince Dr Hickman (Bountiful UT) to move it up.

Also, any issues with low BP and being light headed?  I think I am not eating enough.

This is amazing how the surgical pain is nothing as brutal as the arthritic pain.  At least I can walk now, albeit slow but there is more walking now than before surgery.  Thanks to everyone sharing the journey, your posts let me know where I am on the path to full recovery and a century bike ride in June!

Hi Dawn

Thanks for your post.  I moved it to the hip stories section and added the name of your surgeon.  That helps future patients find stories from surgeons they are interested in.

Good Luck.  Looking forward to that post about your century bike ride in June!
