Lisa ---Did 1 mile today ---hot here in Houston! Wore my TED stockings and took 1 crutch for that kind of walk. For 10 days out I impressed myself!  BIG improvement from the first time up post op--ten steps to the nurses station! Anyway I was glad to get home, had lunch, kicked back and played with the kids! This whole deal has been amazing ! Thanks for all the support from all of the Surface Hippies out there!

Hey everyone --- Resurfaced 7/9... Had my 1st post op visit yesterday ...doing super at less than 2 weeks. Time to drive and be more indepenent  ::)  Walking unassisted today ! I am going to keep a cane close by if I can remember to ! Slept on my side with a pillow between the knees....felt great to switch positions  ;D This journey to Hippyland is much better than expected  :o  .  I am still going to excercise moderation...but going to do more each day! My 5 year old wants me to adjust the crutches for him since I will not be using them! Anyone need some crutches? ----Slightly used less than 2 weeks ;)

Just thought I'd fill you fellow hippies in on my recovery. I'm at the 4 week marker this week. I could not wait to get here so I could go swimming. Went to the beach but the water was so rough I was afraid the waves would topple me over and dislocate my new part. Never made it in past my HIPS....

Heading to the pool tomorrow for some aquatic Therapy and to finally swim with my 3yr old who thinks he has gills.

I got on my elliptical very carefully to see if I could handle the movement and it felt wierd but no discomfort. It was just a 30 second trial run so Mike don't go telling Dr.Gross that I'm a bad patient and not following the RULES...

I wrote in another topic today that I was able to finally bend over and tie my sneaker (Mike I see your eyes rolling).

Limping less and less each day. I head back to work in 2 weeks after 6 week check-up. I probably could have went back already but Dr. wrote me out for 6 weeks. So I do listen sometimes..lol

Take care everyone...

Lisa,

Congrats on the shoe tying, I admit I am highly jealous.  I keep trying but it is not happening yet.  Last time I tried I got a cramp in my abs, which was both funny and pathetic  :-\  Patience is a virtue.

Everything else is going well.

Keep up the great healing

Hello All,
6 Week Update
Just thougt I'd update date everyone. I am at week 6 post-op. My appt. went well and Dr.Gross & Lee said everything looked great. Restrictions aren't to bad. No bending hip into extreme flexion (squatting) or crossing legs at knee. No lifting more than 50 lbs and no impact loading such as jumping and jogging for 6 months. After 6 months the skies the limit. I can do whatever I want.
X-ray showed my new parts fitting nicely and my incision looks great. I have progressed to the Rapid Recovery Program which consists of 1-2 miles per day, stair climbing, exercycle, elliptical, swimming and of course stretching and leg lifts exercises daily.
Lifting my leg while laying down on my side was impossible 3 weeks ago but now I have built up to 15-20 reps holding for 10 seconds.
Going back to work has kept me quite busy so I try to fit in extra exercises when I can. Swimming has become a daily activity and luckily I have access to numerous pools near home which pleases my 3 yr old who seems to think he has gills.

P.S. It's nice to finally be able to tie my own sneakers, at one point I was knocking on my neighbors door with my foot out asking to have my laces ties..ugh.

2 MONTHS POST-OP

This week was kind of a set back. I think I over did it last week and now I am paying for it. I increased the incline on my elliptical and pushed an extra 10 minutes (30 total) and have been increasing my sets of routine exercises. Sometimes you feel so good you forget that you had major surgery. Last saturday night I was feeling so good from my weeks worth of working out that I decided to go out for a few cocktails. Well I strapped on my terribly missed ( It has been about 6 months) high heels and headed out. Sunday my body decided to let me know I wasn't ready for the heels yet. I had an achey pain in my entire leg including shin splints. I called Dr. and they said take it easy for the rest of week and if pain does not go away an xray may be necessary. By wednesday I was fine and will resume my working out on Monday. I took a whole week off of walking, exercises, elliptical and swimming. Limping comes and goes depending on how tired I am.
Otherwise all is fine. My incision looks like a fine line and improves by the week.
Take care all my fellow Hippies.

Hum - you are getting carried away and are paying the price for it.

At least leave the high heals in the closet for awhile longer!

This is not a race and you can really set yourself back as you found out.  Take it easy on yourself.  Everyone ends up healing even without the agressive exercise and PT.

Be kind to your body.  Keep it whole so you can live to enjoy another day!

2 months is still pretty early in your recovery.

 ;)

Back on the road to recovery. Will resume all exercises and walking today, maybe even fit in a swim. No high heels for a while though..lol. That I think was the culprit to my pain.
Haven't contacted PT yet, still kind of undecided about that. No rush I suppose.
