Hi folks, just wanted to give an update as I train for my 7th Boston Marathon (first with a new hip).  Training is going very well.  I ran 19 miles yesterday - that's 49 miles for the week.  I will probably peak between 50-55 miles per week or so.

The hip feel great.  My achilles was acting up a bit last week, but A.R.T. and Kinesio Tape have helped.

Anyway, when I find out my official bib number, I will post it here, so people can follow me on race day.

Have you done anything different w/regards to your training?  Different stretching?

Good luck!

Hi Bernie. I do use my big foam roller before every run on my hip, as well as 1 to 2 other times per day. And of course I get Active Release Technique (ART) on my hip (TFL mostly) and other body parts every two weeks.

But otherwise, not really. I've always been an avid stretcher, even long before I need hip surgery. So I do stretch before and after every run as I always have.

SO excited to be able to follow you!! I'm training for a May 1/2, and things are going well (I'm bilateral). I, too, love my foam roller, and use it after EVERY run, and EVERY cross training session.

Good stuff, Arrojo - how does it feel compared to previous marathons that you prepared for?

This is a very interesting journey... that I'd love to follow one day, not sure if I'll be brave enough to even try, or if my new device will allow me. I hope it goes very well, keep up posting!

Good question. Honestly, except for being a little slower, strictly due to age (not my hip), based on the age -grading tables, training is going really well so far. As well as my last marathon anyway. The ones before that all kind of a blur. Still another hard month ahead of me, but <knock wood> I feel great!

Well, a little slower is ok, you're breaking in all new equipment.

I'll be watching on the way up heartbreak, so I may see you, hope not to see any difference from others, since you'll be running so smooth.

Sounds like your training is on track.

Hi folks,  I have my bib number - it is 27881.  On Monday, April 21, you can follow me during the race at http://www.baa.org

Last week I ran my fastest half marathon in 6 years!  Also, there was an article in the local paper in which my recovery from resurfacing was prominently featured: http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/article/20140322/NEWS/140328478/1994/NEWS

When we get closer to the race day, I will post something in the main forum if it is OK with you Pat.  Not sure how many people look over here.

I will have a white hat and be wearing my old high school track shirt, as usual - it says "Framingham" on it.

Good Luck!

Of course, you can post about your run in the Boston Marathon.

How about a little video if you have a friend with a camera?

Thanks, Pat!   Not sure about the video, but I'm sure I will have photos.  My running club serves as official 'clockwatchers' every year, so I will know someone at every mile clock.

It'd be great to have a video of the start.  I am in Corral 1 of Wave 4.  There are 4 Waves and I am in the slowest wave.  But I am in the fastest corral of the slowest wave if that makes any sense.  Meaning I will be right up at the front!  I'll have to look into getting a video of the start.
