Hello,

First post here:)

This March I was diagnosed with moderate to severe arthritis in both hips.  The right is restricting my running and the left is not much better.  I cannot run even a couple miles without pain afterward.  Needless to say when the first doc I saw told me to stop running and (eventually) have surgery I was devastated.  Another doctor later I find out my growth plate slipped when I was growing up.  This created a deformity and arthritis was unavoidable, per the doc.  In retrospect I believe he's correct, based on my remembering [growing] pains in my legs when I was around 12 years old.

My question is this:  Was anyone here given the same diagnosis?  If yes, was resurfacing an option?  I have an appt set up with a third doc who performs BHR, but was wondering if any of you hippies are like me.

Thanks!

gasyz

Hi,I believe what you have is the same as me "Slipped capital femoral epiphysis".
Mine was only diagnosed when I was in my 20's after getting painfull hips during sport (martial arts and moto x)
I had a right BHR in september 2015 and will have the left when I feel its needed.
Hip feels great now and gone back to impact sports with no issues (that was untill I snapped my ACL).

Hi Joe,
If its the same as gasyz describes, I also had that happen aged 14.
My hip was pinned for a year and the other side pinned as a precaution .
I started with Arthritic pain in my hip around 40 and it was bone on bone when I had my THR at 50 in 2012.
Mr Treacy told me my femoral head was 5° twisted and I was 70/30 against being a HR candidate- he took the resurfacing kit into theatre in case it was possible but unfortunately not so l have an Oxinium/ cross poly THR.
Hopefully , if you haven't had such complications, you'll be ok for HR.
It took me a while to accept what l got and without the good people on this site l would have been struggling.
So many helpful, knowledgeable people here wanting to help other people .
I'll be looking out for your news a d progress, regards, Mike.

Thanks Mike D and gasyz.  We met with Dr. Schmitt yesterday and he confirmed I'm a candidate for BHR on both hips.  Now it's a matter of scheduling.  Looking at first hip in early November.

Good on you Joe. Glad to hear you're a candidate.
I'll watch out for your updates, keep us informed !
