Dead spot

Am now 11 weeks post-op, all going well, apart from a 'dead' spot of approx 4" in diameter round about the bottom half of my scar (which incidentally has healed very well). This is also slightly warmer to the touch than the surrounding area .

No apparent inflammation, no pain. Is this a normal part of healing? Am not too concerned about the lack of sensation, it's more the slightly increased temperature which is worrying.

I do not have a "dead spot", but when I was in Dr. Gross' office last Friday I asked about my incisions (I'm a bilateral) being hot. I was told that it was part of the normal healing process, and they would be that way for a while longer. They are actually warm to the touch.

I just wanted to welcome you to Hip Talk.

Have you had a chance to ask your doctor about the dead spot? Sometimes the best information comes from our doctors or their office.

I don't have exprience with the dead spot problem, so I am sorry I can't help you.

How are you doint as far as walking and getting back to a normal life?

Thanks for the info - overall, my recovery is absolutely fine. I work as a ski instructor, and put in a lot of effort to get as fit as possible before the op - which has paid off, I am walking, swimming, cycling, in no pain ... working on improving exterior/interior rotation now, as that's still not great. But I have at least 3 months in hand before the winter .... !!

The whole area around my incision was numb for a long time. I'm just now starting to get feeling around the area. But it is still tender when it is bumped hard, like from my dogs stepping on my scar. The scar itself is looking "better" all the time (well, as far as scars go!).

I have some numbness around the scar too, but it doesn't worry me. I expect it to diminish over the coming months. Everything else is going great.
