Well I finally had my resurfacing on March 21 with Dr. gross. I was completely unprepared for the pain and recovery issues.  I suppose I just thought that I would really not have that much pain but on my 4th day - it's pretty bad.  I cannot move my operated leg without significant pain. Moving my torso is also excruciating. We had to change the drugs  because the "O".s were just making me constantly throw up.  No amount of anti nausea was helping.  I have a pretty high tolerance for pain living with this bone on bone hip for several years but I am pretty much helpless to do anything.  Just moving is horribly painful. I can hardly even sit on a raised toilet seat without discomfort.  Today is the 4th day after surgery.  Taking the max amount of narcotics.  I'm on the "slow" recovery because of my bone scan.  4 weeks on 10% weight bearing.
Just hope there is some relief soon. Can hardly get in and out of bed.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Claudia - Hang in there. I'm a few weeks ahead of you in my recovery. I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr Peter Brooks of the Cleveland Clinic on 2/26/18 so tomorrow I'm exactly 4 weeks post op.  While I'm not on the "slow recovery" route, I can relate to much of what you're experiencing. I had a terrible bout with nausea in the days following surgery. Part of my anesthesia included a spinal, and I just don't think I reacted well to it. I would say off an on for the first week my head wasn't quite right. The pain in the first several days was pretty severe. You have to keep in mind that this is a MAJOR surgery. Your leg is completely torn apart during the process. Stay ahead of the pain with your pain meds, and just know that it will get better.  The hardest part for me was getting in and out of bed. The pain from my incision was really intense, felt like it was on fire when I would first stand up. All that being said, I've been amazed to see how the body recovers and mends itself. I saw a lot of progress from week 2 to 4. Some days are better than others. I don't feel nearly as fragile as I did the first couple weeks. From the reviews in this forum I know Dr Gross is an extraordinary surgeon, and you were in wonderful hands. One thing I tried to focus on in my earliest days was the fact that every day PRIOR to surgery my hip was getting worse, but everyday AFTER surgery, my hip is getting better. Any serious concerns don't be afraid to contact Dr Gross's office. Stay positive and know that every day that goes by you're getting better!
