Hi, Just over two years post op right BHR and I have issues with bring the hip up towards my chest, there is a crepitus/ grinding and catching as well as pain (never subsided post op).

I have had x-rays, and all looked well.  Metal ions weren't too high: Chromium 2.8, Cobalt 1.5.

Possible the cup is too large for me?

I am a long way from my surgeon and no longer have US insurance coverage.

I will reach out to Dr Bose for another opinion, as he is probably closest to me.

Can anyone relate?  Cheers.

I discovered that I have a high cup at my one year checkup with Dr Gross. He said it was necessary to get the correct angle. But it has left me with little stabs of pain sometimes as I go about my day. I cannot get my leg much past 90 degrees. When I went to PT she could not understand why I could not get my leg higher when all the other hip replacement patients could. I was her first resurfacing patient.

So I was unable to do some of the exercises that stretch the various muscles and every time my leg goes too high the femur hits against the cup. I am afraid this will result in notching the femoral neck or maybe damage the cup. There was a small study that showed some notching of the neck in about 10% of resurfacings. Plus all those soft tissues now have to slide over this high cup and that cannot be good.

So anyway its just something that I didnt expect.. Dr Gross  says I am to avoid any movements where it causes pain. Hard to do as you go through the motions of a normal life. I also wish I had been advised that I had a high cup placement so I could have avoided these movements during my recovery. You may ask your surgeon if the cup could be causing the pain?
