Day 16 Post Op:  I did a lot yesterday.  I want to the gym and a ton of things.  I also did 10 1/2 min. on the exercise bike and 4 1/2 min on the Elliptical.  The Elliptical was challenging but I didn't push it. When I got tired I stopped.  Hence the 4.5 minutes.  When I came home I iced for a bit and relaxed.  Then, decided to take a walk to the mailbox.  I did NOT use the cane and I didn't have any issues at all.  I would say I'm off everything about 95% of the time.  Before bed I got down on the floor and did my PT exercises and even did some Hollow Holds, reverse sit ups, bridges and some Jiu Jitsu exercises.  Def. felt good to be able to do some of this stuff.  We had sex again last night so I was happy about that.

Today I got up and was a bit sore.  I went to the gym and left my cane in the locker.  No issues walking around.  I only did 10 min on the exercise bike and I skipped the elliptical.  After the gym I stopped at the grocery store to grab some things.  I ended up having to walk around the entire store but thankfully I brought my cane with me.  I def. needed it at that point esp. after carrying a several liters of Seltzer water.

Day 17:  Another great day.  getting stronger every single day.  I hit the gym this morning and did a few light sets of leg extensions on the machine.  Again, no cane.  I would say I'm walking 95% without the cane.  After the gym we went out to an Arcade type place and spend over 3 hours there.  Most of this time was walking or standing and I did not bring the cane.  I'm sore now but not terrible.  I'm icing it now but overall feel really good.

Day 19:  Everything is pretty much the same.  Going to the gym every morning and slowly building things back.  Walking 95% unassisted but using the cane to make sure I don't develop a limp.  I start outpatient PT today so we will see how that goes.  I did a LOT this past weekend so I'm feeling it a bit.  No pain just sore.  I'm still icing it but the swelling is pretty much all gone at this point.  I have 2 more days of taking Tylenol and I will prob. continue wearing my TED socks until Friday.  I think because I'm so active and I'm up and about I prob. don't need them.  That will be basically 3 1/2 weeks wearing them.  Also, on Friday I'm going to take the final zip tie bandage off.  They said last Tuesday to keep it on for a week to a week and a half so I will prob just take it off on Friday unless it starts coming off prior.

Day 21:  Things are still progressing nicely.  I've stopped using the toilet seat extender a few days ago.  Still hardly using the cane at all even when I go out.  Today I started outpatient PT and that went great.  They gave me some new exercises to do and were blown away with my progress thus far.  I'm still going to the gym daily and started adding in some light machine calf raises and light leg extensions.  My PT said that was perfectly fine just to listen to my body.  They approved me for 8 weeks of PT two times per week but said they doubt I will need to go that long.  My strength is coming back which I'm excited about.  Hopeful to get my life back to normal within the next 2 months or so.

Fantastic!  Well done.

I made the mistake of doing 100 lunge-walks in the gym on Saturday (50 per leg, no rest).  I've barely been able to walk since, but not hip-related.  Just super sore muscles.  Still, I'm glad to feel that 'ole lactic acid pain again!

Hopefully it's getting better.  Sometimes we feel good when we are at the gym and think we are SuperMan to quickly get told by our bodies days later that we are mere mortals.  haha

Day 26:  Somehow, I'm hovering around the one month mark already.  The time is FLYING by.  Just got back from PT and she stepped things up today.  I was literally sweating while there.  She had me doing a ton of step down exercises on the stairs which REALLY target where I'm weak.  She said she is blown away with where I'm at already and to keep doing what I'm doing.

I've been doing great overall.  Been still hitting the gym every day working mostly upper body.  I did the elipictal again today but that is still really challenging.  I've been walking 100% without the cane.  I'm able to sleep on my operated side for long lengths of time which is AWESOME.  I can also sleep on my stomach and flipping over and around is getting so much easier.  Yesterday, I did a ton.  Went to the gym in the morning, then went grocery shopping. to the pet warehouse, and then Walmart.  It was a TON of walking but I felt good.  I also removed the zipper thing on my scar the other day.  It was super super sticky and left a residue that took about 2 days to get off.  I didn't want to get in there and scrub away so I just used some antibacterial soap and slowly went at it.

Day 32 Post Op:  I'm feeling GREAT!!!!  I've been hitting the gym every day and slowly getting back into shape.  I think I did a little too much a few days ago so yesterday and the day before things were sore so I just took it easy and today it feels great.  I can put my socks and shoes on without any devices and can tie my sneakers on my own which is super helpful.  My strength is coming back slowly but consistently.  Today at the gym I did some machine squats.  The base has a slanted support so I first tried it without any weight.  I added 50lbs. and then 90lbs. but didn't go any higher.  Not going deep like I used to before having issues and a far cry from the 900lbs. I was doing before my hip started to grow but it is major progress to me.  I did that for 4 sets of 15-20 and then some seated leg curls, and 10 minutes on the bike.  I'm starting to do lunges but only going about halfway down and I'm even able to throw some SUPER light kicks without speed, power or anything but going thru range of motion.  I tried doing some planks and didn't have any issues.

I have a follow up in a week and a half which will be 6 weeks.  They said at the 6 week mark the bone will be fused to the implant and at that point I can start doing a little more.  I'm excited to be able to go hiking when the weather breaks and get out without pain.  We are getting a new puppy in a week and a half so he will keep me busy and walking more and more.  Super excited.

6 WEEKS POST OP:  I had my 6 week follow up today and all is good.  They are super happy with my progress so far.  The past week I've been working on balance and building the stabilizer muscles.  I cleaned up my diet and I'm already down 6lbs. in a week so that's encouraging.  Still hitting the gym daily.  I've added in some light Romanian Deadlifts, TRX full squats, and even started doing a TINY bit of jumping rope.

My PT is still blown away at my progress.  I'm getting a little bit of a sharp pain, kind of like biting your tongue, on the inside of my groin when I do certain motions.  The Physicians Assistant said that is just inflammation in the soft tissue and that will go away over time.  He said since I'm doing a lot of rehab etc it is just causing it to be inflamed.  X-Rays looked perfect and I don't have another follow up until 6 months.  I'm glad I'm where I'm at and looking forward to getting stronger and stronger each week.

PistolPete

I had a little bit of an issue so I texted my Surgeon.  I noticed my scar was getting red and didn't look great.  I sent him a picture and he called me back.  He said to just keep an eye on it but he wasn't concerned.  He asked how my recovery was going and he did say to not overdue it.  He said there is a ton of soft tissue damage and inflammation and I need to let that settle in.  My balance is really starting to come back which is great.

jimbone

I found the Bosu ball very helpful in regaining balance and rebuilding the soft tissue/glute muscles for the fine motor control needed for balance.  Building up to a 20 rep set of deep squats followed by a 10 rep set of partial one legged squats was a turning point but it took a good 2-3 months after my 6 week appointment before I could do that.  Sounds like your advancing rapidly.

PistolPete

I'm 8 weeks post op and feeling mostly good.  I have some pain during certain movements but overall things are going well.  My flexibility in my hip flexors right now is my biggest issue.  I started jumping rope and that's going pretty well.  I only do 50 or so reps and then stop and I'm not slamming anything.  Yesterday and today we did a mile and a half walk around the lake.  I will try hiking the mountain near me within the next couple weeks just going super slow.  I'm still hitting the gym daily and aside from injuring my neck/shoulder that's been great.  The other day I did some leg presses.  I only went up to 100lbs. with super strict form for sets of 15 and I could have done more but slow and steady wins the race.  I will do a bit more this week but again I won't push things.  I'm guessing the next month is when I will see the big progress.

PistolPete is locked and loaded!  Great to hear about your progress.  You are an inspiration!

Not to discourage you, but make sure you don’t overdo and compromise any of your surgeon’s hard work.  Those internal sutures will start dissolving soon and you don't want to accidentally tear something.  Last thing any of us want is to be cut open again when we’ve come so far.

I agree with you on that.  Def. don't want to have to go back under the knife.  I'm at 3 months now and feeling pretty good.  The only issue I'mr really having is my hip flexor highness in both hips.  It is really quite bad and I'm working on stretching to loosen it up.  I'm still hitting the gym and started adding in leg presses but nothing crazy.  I need to work on my range of motion more.  I'm still in the gym daily and with our new puppy we've been taking him for walks daily so getting in plenty of exercise.  My goal is to be super lean this summer so I started tweaking my diet and adding in a little more cardio.  I'm still jumping rope and getting so much better at it so I'm happy about that.  Other than that not too much to report.  I feel good overall.
