I am scheduling my hip resurfacing soon. One of the things that drives me crazy and makes me feel older than my years is the process of getting out of cars, especially low ones. I can't swing my left leg out because of OA, pain and tightness. I have to do all kinds of twister and odd rolls to get out. Quite comical really except it isn't. Once I am healed up will I be back to jumping out of cars like a youth or will it always be a 'thing' even well after my recovery? I am trying to plant some seeds of hope :)

Hi Danlalane,  I just had bilateral surgery May 9 and May 11th.  I had the same kind pain and issues you indicated.  Even though I am a few weeks out and recovering, I have been in the car and I can say I don't have the same pain that I had.  I don't need to lift my legs with my arms anymore.  It was odd not feeling the pain at first, but it was a great thing.  I believe you will experience no pain as well. You might not be a kid after the surgery, but you will be better.

Yes, after you heal and gain strength you will be able to get in and out of cars like a normal person. You should have someone show you how to get in and out of a car easily, even with the bad hips, even after surgery. There are little tricks to make it a smoother process.

Phew thank you both. My height, 6'4" and lack of flexibility are big inhibitors too.

Absolutely!  I was having the same issue.  Everything slowly gets back to normal (pre OA pains) after the surgery.  I have no regrets at all and I think you won't either.
