BHR left hip with Dr Treacy on the 5th september 2023

hi my name is Mark. I am currently just over 10 weeks post op from my bhr with dr treacy in birmingham UK. My sport for the last 9 years has been triathlon. Since early 2020 i was suffering from a recurring hip problem which was gradually becoming more of an issue. Eventually i couldnt run more than a few miles which given the fact that i needed to run a half marathon or full marathon wasnt ideal. After long periods seeing a physio work on alleged lazy glutes or piraformis syndrome etc i finally plucked up the courage to go for a scan. I found out what i guess i already new i had osteoarthritis of the left hip. After many months of waiting and doing lots of research on my options i finally found Dr Treacy and had my operation on the 5th September 2023. I am writing this story for anybody who is thinking about having this operation. Do your research find an experienced DR who is doing this procedure on a regular basis and go for it. Before i had it all i could do was think of the potential of losing my sport that means so much to me and ultimately getting worse as time went on. I now feel that i have taken back control of my destiny and been given the chance to get back to my sport. If anyone reads this and wants to know anything about the whole process so far please get in touch . My goal is to complete Ironman Wales in September 2024 my 5th one but first with the new hip and i will keep you posted on my progress in the coming months.

Hi Mark,

My name is Charlie and I was diagnosed with bilateral hip impingements at 19, after 6 years and 3 operations I have recently had a scan with confirms grade 4 cartilage damage in my left hip which is still giving me a lot of pain. I am only 25 years old and very worried about the future.

I have been researching resurfacing for the past couple of months and I’m seeing professor Cobb at imperial college next month. I also plan to see Treacy in the new year, so any comments on him and the overall experience would be helpful.

I have lots of questions, would I be able to fire them your way? What ever platform is the most convenient for you

My hometown is Swansea in south wales, I have attended the Ironman in Tenby a few times!

Hi Mark, how's the hip? On course for iron an in September?

I'm over 9 years right hip from Mr McMinn, who I would go back to but is now not practising. Think my left finally has had enough... My golf is poor and my back is sore compensating, I believe, from the hip.

So, I am thinking Mr Treacy is the logical choice, I'm in Bristol.

Any notes of wisdom you would mention?

Can anyone recommend another top class bhr surgeon in South West?
