Hi folks,

Checking in. It's my thirteenth year as a hippy, (well, plus two days). My second was three months later, much easier the second time, since I'd already seen the good from the first surgery.

I had a lot of pain all over my body, but real issues on the left hip. I was diagnosed and told to do a total hip, but couldn't live with the limitations that were described at the time (no exercise, probable revision) - I was lucky to find both this site and a resurfacing doctor.

The surgeries went well, I had to learn a new skill - being patient, since you have to take care and be careful until you are done with the recuperation.

I know people want to know how long to wait; I should have gone earlier, but didn't until my hip started dislocating. The hip was a mess, not only the arthritis but also bone spurs. The arthritis / hip spur pain was gone after the surgery, just the surgery pain. After 11 months or so (my choice), I went back to full workouts at the gym, punching and kicking a heavy bag, weights, no problem, and that has continued. No limits.

Anyways, checking in. To current and future hippys, you go when you feel it's right, but don't put it off if you're in pain. My result was good, hope all of you are the same when you decide.

Once again Pat, thank you.

Hernan.

Hello Hernanu,

Great to hear your report. You are one of the old gang on here back in Feb 2011 when I was first diagnosed with hip at aged 36 and desperately seeking inspiration and found this website. Just hopped on here for the first time in a year or two.

No limits, man, and 13 years on. Still hitting the heavy bag and still an inspiration you are!  So great to hear.

I have to second the Thanks to Pat. So many people have this site to thank for guiding them to hip resurfacing and the best surgical outcomes like this one.
