This year, JointMedica invited four global hip resurfacing key opinion leaders to discuss their take on hip resurfacing at the ISTA 2023 Hip Resurfacing Breakfast Symposium (Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel).

Thanks, Pat, for posting these videos.

As the owner of a near-9-year-old BHR and a 6 year old THR I was fairly horrified to hear some of the stats being quoted about the downsides to THR - until Dr Gross referred to the Korean surgeon who has near-perfect results with ceramic/ceramic uncemented prostheses (which he says is not favoured in the US). Phew, big sigh of relief as I think my Zimmer ceramic right hip will easily outlast me - and not because it has poisoned me in the process!

BHR has its anniversary on Saturday, still working well for running, climbing, mountaineering etc - pretty much anything I want to do - and has run 1,200 miles in the last 12 months, sharing nicely with its THR partner...

I enjoyed watching these videos.  The THR stats are negative for the long term but then there is the hiprunner website which has some amazing success stories going beyond 10 years of running including the founder's story!
I am an avid downhill skier, often skiing the backcountry alone most of the time.
Stability is a huge benefit to me that the hip resurfacing offers over the THR.
I don't want to dislocate the hip, skiing alone in the backcountry should I take a hard, awkward fall and dislocate the hip and wait hours for a rescue should I be able to contact ski patrol or mountain rescue!
I've heard that the 36 mm head THR, anterior approach also offer excellent stabilty, however.
Then there is the issue of thigh pain for some THR's but not hip resurfacings particularly when downhill skiing.
I'm very happy with my bilateral BHR's as I ski 60 days a season!
