Hi all,
Im week 13 of my BHR done by dr Treacy,
Im finding I don’t have full flexibility, I cannot cross my legs nor put on socks without pain.
I can however walk and jog at a slow pace , nowhere near the pace I was doing prior to the op though.
Am I being impatient or do I need to do something else?

Cheers

I'm only ~3 weeks out myself.  My Dr. said no running for 1 year, so I would say way too early to make a call on the running part.  But I am able to cross my legs and put on socks and shoes without pain at this point.  Range of motion wise, my hip had pretty horrible range of motion prior to surgery due to the joint being such a mess, but I'm now at least where I was before surgery in most directions and it's improving, and better than before surgery in some directions.  All I've been doing is walking a few miles a day with crutches (dr. orders crutches for 6 weeks) and some very mild occasional stretching.  My dr. said no range of motion limits, but I'm afraid to push the stretching too hard this early for fear of a dislocation.   I'm still a long way off of my good hip.  I can put my good leg knee behind my shoulder or past my ear no problem, my bad side I can only get about 8 inches from my forehead, so better than before surgery but a good ways to go to get back to my normal.

Hi there, I'm currently 13 months post op and have just had my 12 months post op consultation with Dr Treacy.
I still don't have full knee to chest flexion.
Asked him about it and it turns out I might never have it. Apparently some people do and some people don't.
Running has been the hardest thing to get back to. Jogging is fine but when I increase the pace after about 2 miles I get discomfort in my piraformus. I can run with this for a few miles more but not much fun.
This is improving slowly but patience is definitely going to be needed for you at this early stage in your rehab and ongoing.
There will be many ups and downs !
I am 63 years old and returning to triathlon.
Keep doing your strength work it is essential.
Good luck,Mark painter

Stretch, stretch, stretch.

You have to work at it.  You have to develop a good stretch and stretch routine and stay with it.

I've been at it for 13 years and if I don't stretch my left side feels like the joint has failed.  A few days stretching and it's fine.  Two years ago a got my routine together; 4 days running then 1.5 hours of stretch and strength.  I've been fine ever since.

I stretch daily. Would say strenght work is more important but they solve different things as everyone knows.
