Today I am 7 weeks post op. I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. David Mayman at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. Today was also the 4th day out of the last 5 that I have gone to the gym; 22 minutes on the treadmill and 23 minutes on the recumbent bike. I'm not going to break any records in the near future, but it feels sooo good to start getting back to some of my old activities.

I still have my share of recovery related aches and pains, but every day I notice something new that I am able to do. I have put all of my helper toys away, including my cane. It’s hard to believe that putting socks and pants on like a grown up could provide such pleasure :)

I was 7 weeks last Wednesday so it is interesting to hear of your progress. On that day, I was back in Montreal seeing Dr. Antoniou for my 6 (really 7) week check up. All is looking good. Put away my cane for good at 4 weeks, though I do use a couple of hiking poles on rough ground or snow. Put away my raised toilet seat and can now tie shoes and, when properly warmed up, can put on socks. Walked 4 k this morning and felt great after it. Am trying to balance on the bionic leg but that is not easy. I do not have any real pain but I am still aware of each step. Am lookikng forward to the day when I can get up and be totally oblivious of the new hip. Are you still constantly aware of yours?
Keep up the good work

I am still aware of it. It doesn't hurt, but sometimes it feels tight. I know that the tightness is muscles, unlike before, so I work through it. What's nice is the longer periods of activity when I am not aware of it!

Today I am 12 weeks post op and I feel great! I saw the doc on Tuesday and he removed the remaining activity restrictions. I can now get back on my PoGo stick  :) It's amazing how the progress creeps up on you. I no longer have any sensation that my left (operated) leg is longer than my right. I don't wobble from side to side when I walk. I can put my socks on with ease and put my pants on standing up without leaning on anything!

If anyone reading this is contemplating hip resurfacing, stop thinking and do it!

It's hard to believe that I wrote this 6 years ago! I have not had a single issue with my hip since David Mayman resurfaced it. The only reminder I have is the metal detector at airports  8)

For those on the fence, don't wait!

That's excellent, Kyle. Congrats!
