Had my Rt hip resurfaced on 20 September by Mr Zahn in Canterbury and, apart from
feeling pretty stiff, it all seems to have gone very well.

Mr Zahn shot off for a regatta at Lymington on the day after my op but
returned less one mast and a mainsail on the sunday to advise me that I
had a degree of dysplasia in both hips. He had also used a new device
from Smith & Nephew which aids the setting of the BHR between the hip
and the femur.

Staggering about at home with 2 sticks - probably will proceed with the
left hip in the new year.

Hi Welcome to Hip Talk

Talk it easy and give your hip time to heal.  It will take awhile.  I was able to use just one elbow crutch at about 4 days post op.  It made life much easier.  I used the crutch on the opposite side of the operated hip. It went forward as I took a step forward with the operated leg and hit the ground just before my foot did.  I used the one crutch for almost 4 weeks post op.  I could manage to get around without a crutch when I could hang on to the kitchen counter, etc.  I often started forgetting it when I would go to the bathroom at night and find in the morning - my crutch was left in the bathroom.

If all goes well, you will be back to feeling pretty normal in a few months.  It does take time for your body to heal.

I will have to do an internet search to find out about the new device to set the BHR.  It is always good for them to come up with new instrumentation.  My doctor, Dr. De Smet of Belgium, says there is not much instrumentation for the BHR.  That is what makes the surgery much more difficult than a THR.

Good Luck!
