The range of motion is very good - much better than my other hip!
I'm not an athlete, however I do work out regularly at the gym which makes a huge difference in the way my hip feels.  If I miss a couple of weeks, I can feel the muscles around my hip start to tighten up and find myself starting to limp again.
All I ever wanted was a pain-free, normal life.  My BHR has given that back to me.  I can now keep up with my 3 teenagers, and also the 15 4-year-olds at the preschool where I work!  I'm sure my husband feels like he is married to a much younger woman than he had 3 years ago!

I'm very happy for you, and for me it's great to hear about goodness down the road.

If I understand you right.....your asking if anyone limps if they stop working out...???

Well...I dont limp at all anymore  :D unless I push it too much and then my hip aches and I do limp for a few days  :-[ :-[ ....but I do get various aches and pains if I dont train on a regular basis....old injuries that play up for some reason, if I dont exercise.

I limped pre-op for a few years...didn't even realize it until people kept pointing it out to me or asked if I had injured myself. I do not limp at all anymore!!! I am 5 1/2 months post-op. No start up pain, no start up limping, it is awesome!!!

dimples,
Great to hear from someone years into this. I wish there were a lot more reporting in. Thanks.

I remember those days. It really got old getting asked that question. It is so awesome walking normally again!

It is sure amazing how much we all have in common in dealing with this disease.  I would limp and not notice anything unusual.  But people would ask why I was limping.

I will be sure glad when this is behind me. (Yes, I am having a posterior incision)  LOL

Hi Folks

Newdog's post has prompted me to add something here as my left hip is coming up to 7 years later this month and my right hip went past 3 years in March.   Like others who've posted I had horrendous pre-op limps.  It was really a friend who is a  physiotherapist who stopped me and told me how bad it was who prompted me to get my first hip op.   I don't think this website was around back in 2004 (Pat?).   I wish it had been or I had known about something like it.

As has also been posted, like others I don't usually limp but every now and then I overdo the exercise and strain things.  A couple of weeks ago I did a very hilly hike of just over 6 miles in 2 hours.   It wouldn't have been so bad but I hadn't been doing a lot of walking in the weeks before it.   I limped for a couple of days after.

I would add that at 57 years old I would expect to get muscle strains even if I didn't have new hips.

I'm hoping to put together a fuller post on my hip's 7th birthday (25 May) when I'll add in some details to where I am now.

7 years ago I had to pay for my new left hip.  3 years ago the National Health Service paid for the new right one.  I certainly have no regrets paying for the left one.   Money well spent!

Best wishes to all hippies (and potential hippies) on here, whatever stage you are at.
