Hi Everyone,

I've been looking at this site for a couple of weeks now and have gathered a lot of information and answers to questions I had from people's comments and views listed here, so just wanted to say a big thankyou for that. Especially a big thankyou to Pat for running the show!

My hip surgery is scheduled for February 14th and I'm going for pre-admission tests tomorrow. I'm told my estimated discharge date is February 19th. I'm looking forward to it but I'm still a little apprehensive, as I guess nobody wants to be cut open. Its been interesting reading the slightly different information and view points that people have provided and made me realise there isn't any hard and fast rules for the whole procedure and recovery period. If I'd just read one review somewhere of what to expect and what I was going through differed from that, I would probably start worrying something was wrong. Having read a lot of the comments on this site you realise that there are differring scenarios that could be experianced, especially during recovery.

I'll be happy to post my experiances following surgery to hopefully assist others, as everyone's comments have helped me.

Hi Rod

Thank You for the kind words.  I work hard at the website so people can learn all the can about hip resurfacing.  Unfortunately too many doctors don't tell people about it or just don't believe in it because they haven't taken time to learn about the newest type of resurfacing that began in 1997.  The old hemi-resurfacing which only capped the femur was not a good procedure and had many failures.

I want to wish you good luck on February 14 - you will have a love affair with our new hip - trust me it will be great when you heal.

I am glad you understand there is a whole range of recoveries.  I am often criticized on the large Yahoo discussion group for telling people about my quick recovery.  It is the only story I can tell because I experienced it.  I was with 8 others that had the same recovery. Most Dr. De Smet patients have pretty quick and easy recoveries.  That is one of the reasons I chose him.

There are however, even a few De Smet patients that had slower recoveries.  There seems to be no way to predict the future  of a recovery or life.

I hope that your recovery will be quick and easy.  In general, it usually goes pretty well for most people.

I look forward to posting your story after surgery.  You can either blog it or let me post it on the main website.  I am also happy to post updates, videos and photos too.

Good Luck!

Pat
