"Startup Pain" at 17 Weeks?

Today was my 17 week "post-op" anniversary.  Overall, everything is going very well.  Lots of days I don't really think about the hip at all!  I am even able to comfortably ride in the aero position when using my bike trainer- flexibility is coming along nicely and I am only about 4 inches from touching my nose to my knee when stretching the hamstrings on my operative side after a nice workout.  Question- how many of you still have "startup pain" after sitting for a while and then standing up, especially at just about 4 months?  It just takes a few steps to stretch out and then I'm good- no pain at all.

My wife and I are taking 3-4 mile walks on the weekends and I am using both my bike trainer and Nordic Track ski exerciser during the week.  I walk at least one-two miles and do a lot of stairs most days at work as well, and lift weights at least twice per week (nothing heavy on the hip!).

Thanks,

Steve

Startup stiffness/soreness is pretty normal, some do not have it but I would be most do at some point for up to almost a year sometimes.

My operation was 06/06/11. I had startup pain at 4 months.  It slowly became less and less. Then one day I was sitting on a hard surface for an extended time. I was thinking that my startup pain was going to be more than usual but to my pleasant surprise I didn't have any.  Healing is all about patience

I am 4 mo post-op and I still have pretty significant start-up pain/stiffness for up to several minutes, depending on how long I sat. I drive for extended periods for my job, so I'm always really sore and stiff when I get out of the car. Apparently, however, it's normal at this point, so no worries.

It is. I had startup pain until the 9th month or so.

I'm only at 9 weeks but you mentioned the key - any stiffness goes away after a few steps which is where I am at. What will likely happen is the stiffness will go away and you won't even notice - it will just occur to you one day that you are no longer stiff when you get up!

Almost five months for me, and I get it - like most - for a few steps after driving or sitting at my desk for a while.

I still get it at about 8 months on one side and 3+ on the other side.

Is normal, and just stiff, no pain, and for me, only when arising from a seated position.

At 61, my whole body has start-up pain whenever I get up after sitting for awhile :'(
However, my resurfaced hip is probably slightly less stiff than the rest of me, and once I get moving and keep moving, everything is good for skiing, tennis, windsurfing, hiking, or whatever. ;D
