Got my BRHR tomorrow with Mr Woodnutt.  Very nervous and scared as you all know. Just wondering is it actually true that when you wake up all your osteoarthritis pain has gone??? Also thinking what to take in to hospital as I think they want you up and dressed as soon as. Thinking maybe jogging bottoms and loose things to allow for any swelling. It's just the unknown and how I will be afterwards. Had this pain for so many years I don't remember what it's like to be pain free lol. I am hoping the pain I am in is making me look old and then afterwards it will be a case of how to look 10 years younger, have hip resurfacing lol. Please send me positive vibes for tomorrow. Trying to remain calm as I have to have it no matter what, can't live the rest of my life like this 😳

Rach,
good luck for tomorrow. Yes its true that the OA pain is gone when you wake up. You will have some muscular pain though. Take baggy cloaths as you say to allow for the swelling. You will do fine just take it easy, eat well, rest lots and ice.
Good luck Danny

Best wishes. You may have swelling in your feet as well. Prepare accordingly.

Rach that pain will be gone. However, you will be sore from the surgery. You'll have pain medicine, all of the support of the staff and a plan for getting you going. The operation soreness / swelling etc. will go away in due time. The OA pain will be gone. I had none left, which was a shock; the surgery pain attenuates and should eventually be gone.

Good luck!

Hi Rach

Good Luck with your upcoming surgery.  We all are nervous before, but very happy after.  Just think about how great you will feel in another month or so when you are out and walking without pain.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Rachael,

The pain was gone for me, and the pain from the incision was not that bad.  I woke up pain free because of the spinal that they did.  I brought baggy pajamas to wear, I did not wear pants the day of surgery, but the day after I did.  I was doing a lot of walking that day, so very happy that my butt was not exposed.
Best of luck to you, you will feel better.  Enjoy today.
Oh another thing that I took to the hospital was my computer, because they has wi-fi.  I brought some moveis to watch on my laptop too.  Oh yeah and I brought bathroom things for my shower, I am a shampoo snob.
let us know when you are on the other side.

Another good trick to walk around the hospital prior to the catheter removal (if you still have it when PT comes) is to wear another Hospital gown backwards to cover your posterior  :o

Good Luck!!!

Good luck tomorrow!  I was super nervous before the operation (my first) but it was all for naught!  I woke up feeling fine, no pain (had plenty of meds) some numbness in the lower half for about 45 minutes but no big deal.  There is a little soreness after they remove the epidural the following day but you can supplement that with the pill form of whatever they give you.  I was surprised how little pain I had after and transitioned to just plain Tylenol within 3 days of operation.  I know you will be happy after this is over and the OA pain is gone.  Recovery has been great, and as long as you keep up on your PT I'm sure you will recover fast and be walking before you know it!
Good Luck

Good luck, Rach.  Ditto what everyone else said.

When you get home, it's great to have:

1.  A recliner to sit in....the most comfortable position.
2.  A table nearby for your books, laptop (if you have one), remote control, drink, etc.
3.  Lots and lots of ice packs ready to go.  Ice is your best friend.

Good luck.
