I am six weeks post op today. Just had my follow up appointment and doing really well. I don't post much but I have read the forum and website everyday since the surgery. I have relied a great deal on the experience and information shared by the members and I want to say grateful I am and how important this site is.

Many thanks to all

Glad to hear that you reached this 6 week marker, I almost started to feel normal at 6 weeks, walking unassisted and going some distance.  Remember to listen to your body and you will get to 100% normal.  :)

Thanks for your interest. I think I have had a pretty steady and successful recovery. I have not had the miracle recovery I read from some but I have had few problems either and hopefully that will continue. I have not rushed off walking aids quickly, I'm mostly off everything around the house but still use a cane for long walks, I just find I walk better and I can pretty much walk as far as I want with no ill effects.  I have had very little pain from the time of the op, just stiffness and weakness that I am still working through.

The most things I got from the forum members were,

1. The support to overcome fear and have the operation.

2. Icing. I have iced religiously and had little swelling.

3. Getting a recliner! It's been a god send.

4. Getting the rest, exercise balance right.

5. Understanding that we all go at our own pace and it's the long term that counts.

6. Just the understanding of others who have gone through the same.

I'd be pleased to support others if I can. With a bit of luck, I won't know myself in another 6 weeks.

Cheers

Mike

Mike, glad you are doing well my friend. This site has been my support group for over a year and a half.  I am so glad I got it done. It was a crazy year but well worth it.  It gets better every day.

When are you racing a marathon?

Well Hip,

I was going to give it a try at 10 weeks, but then I saw what you copped on here from your mates so I have chickened out!  :)

Being serious, I'm not a runner, I teach Taekwondo and i hope to be able to do that at some level. And I want to ride my jet ski, bushwalk, kayak, mountain bike and play tennis with my friends and the kids.

Hope to be recovered for that stuff in the Australian summer in December.

Does anyone know if we can get tattoos?  My Taekwondo mates are getting club tattoos, thought I might extend my midlife crisis to ink? Is it a no go? With antibiotics?

Cheers
