I'm scheduled for resurfacing surgery in September 2016 and Dr. Gross indicated I'm a candidate for the outpatient procedure.  Does anyone have anything to share regarding having this done as an outpatient?  When I had my other hip resurfaced in 2008 by a different surgeon, I had a two night hospital stay.

Giving you a bump.

Friend who had it said 1) Beware of low blood pressure and fainting. Get up slowly the first few days. 2) Your op leg will feel like a worthless log. She also said that Dr Gross visited her in the hotel, as did a nurse.

She is about ten weeks out now, feels great, is glad she did out patient.

My surgery date has been changed from September to this Wednesday the 15th.  Leaving today.

Good Luck jmorriss! You're going to do just fine, you're in great hands in SC.

Eeek! So quick!

Can't wait to hear how it went.

I had my pre-op today and have to be at the surgery center at 8:00 on Wednesday the 17th for 10:00AM surgery.  Pre op went well.  Dexa Scan numbers are good so I'll be on the "fast" recovery program.

Had surgery earlier today.  I'm about 6 hours post op.  Relaxing back at the Marriott with the ice machine.

jmorriss

I'm currently one day post op.  All is well.

Good luck, you will see improvements daily after day 5. Good to hear the surgery went well.

Larry, thanks for the words of encouragement.

Congrats Jay! Relax and take it easy for a bit... The first week or two isn't a heckuva lot of fun but it won't be long and then the progress really starts and you'll be blown away at how much better you're feeling.

Hello Quig, thanks for the encouraging words.  I'm going to take it slow.  No reason to have a setback or failure of the resurfacing by being too aggressive.

Flew home to Wisconsin from SC yesterday.  Right now, I'm icing with my Polar Care unit and watching Netflix.

jmorriss

I'm now four days post op.  I'm able to get around with one crutch and have switched to just Tylenol for pain.  I have noticed more swelling today in my operative leg.  Hopefully it's nothing to be concerned about and I'm going to start icing.

Jay

The swelling in the operative leg a few days after swelling is typical. It happened to me. All of a sudden I had a cankle on the surgical side. Dr. P mentions this on his website http://seattlejointsurgeon.com/patient-education/concerns-after-hip-resurfacing.php so I wasn't concerned when it happened. It will go away. The worst part is all that fluid only has one way out, so you have to pee a lot.

Swelling is a normal body reaction against injuries, Dr. Brockwell explained to me. The body tries to stifften that part so you will not overuse it. Lay down, relax and take it easy
..... I will find out

jmorriss

Thank you to all who have commented.  I'm now nine days post-op.  I feel a little better every day.  I'm taking two extra strength Tylenols a day for pain and I'm walking with a cane.

jmorriss

As of today, I'm 17 days post op.  Sometimes I use my cane sometimes, I don't.  Took a 1/2 mile walk today without the cane.  Felt a little pain in the front of my thigh, which went away after my walk was over.  I am grateful that I continue to feel a little better each day.
