Hi Pat and all,
Apologies, been a while since I last posted-sorry!
Tomorrow my left hip resurfacing will be 9 years young!
It continues to perform superbly-so huge thanks as always to Pat and many others who guided and supported me 9 years ago.
Best
Toby
Ps I might be wrong and although in UK we're getting news updates on Andy Murray- no mention of surgeon but I've a strong feeling it was my great surgeon Prof Cobb!

Toby.  Congratulations on your 9 year anniversary. Thanks for stopping by and updating us.  Great to hear from the hip resurfacing patients who have moved on to an active, pain free life.  Looking forward to reading about more of your anniversaries.

Here is the post about Andy Murray. He use Professor Max Fehily.  I hope he has a quick recovery and is able to return to tennis.

Lovely reply Thanks Pat.
Re-Andy Murray I've followed the UK media including the BBC article and TV coverage, Professor Fehily was the surgeon commentator on BBC, he doesn't operate in any of the London Hospitals (works in Manchester) and specialises in hip arthroscopic procedures for performance athletes.  So I doubt he was the surgeon.
Professor Cobb has performed some high profile HR's in last couple of years but tends to maintain confidentiality  (persistent  journalists have revealed him a while later)
I'll update when I know more from over the pond.

Interesting that Professor Cobb's team have the new all-ceramic prosthetic on trial but Andy has been given MoM "old technology" ...

Hi Pete,
I think the new ceramic which is currently on trial was particularly designed for smaller framed patients, those with smaller femoral heads/ acetabular cups and particularly women.
A patient of Andy Murray's stature is an excellent candidate for the proven HR devices.

I think you've got it there, Toby, the strength of the ceramic parts might be inadequate in larger sizes unless the cup thickness increased substantially, leading to a smaller ball and possibly risk of dislocation. And nobody wants the publicity that would follow from a spectacular failure of a new, experimental, device fitted to a national hero - it would be the last nail in the coffin for resurfacing...
Congratulations on the 9 years,  by the way!

Congrats Toby, looks like we're about the same hip age. Continued good health!

Interesting points Pete!
I'll be seeing Prof Cobb in a few months and I'll get some updates and find out more. He was always a major advocate for HR here in the UK, and during my visits I remember him saying( upset that some surgeons were dropping HR and NICE stopped recommending it for females) it's important that a new HR device specifically designed for smaller patients was essential. Hope it's successful!
Pete, I remember following your BHR and impressive post op progress/ running. Delighted to see your philosophical positivity following your ceramic THR. My brother inlaw who lives in Canada had a THR in the summer and is back elite skiing. He's 70, a doctor and is confident the new generation of devices are far more accepting of high level activity.
Keep up the great work.

Hern,
So lovely to hear from you and great to see the wonderful support and wisdom you continue to offer hippies and prospective HR patients.
Also, brilliant to see your continued sporting activity levels.
Well done buddy
