I had my right hip (RH golfer) resurfaced in late January 2020. I played a full 2020 golf season, beginning in May when our course opened (late start due to COVID). I had begun swinging a club at home in March, and probably would have been ready to play the course by late April (ie.- 3 months post-surgery). I was able to walk the course without issue from day one of the season, playing 3-4 times per week. I had expected to take a power cart once in a while, but it just wasn't necessary. Playing pain-free golf for the first time in years was outstanding. I did find that I hit the ball slightly farther than I did pre-surgery; 5-10 yards with the driver, and half a club or so with my irons. It took some time to adjust to swinging with some strength in my back leg, and I really didn't score very well until later in the year. It really was a different golf swing with the "new" hip, and it took time to adjust. As my leg got stronger over the course of the year, I played better, more consistent golf. I had some very good rounds in September and October. I played my best round of the year in mid December and am looking forward to "year two" when our course re-opens in April.

Based on my experience, I'd suggest that anyone currently playing golf in pain and considering resurfacing should be very excited at the prospect of playing pain-free. Don't expect to play great golf right away; rather, expect to gradually improve as your swing adjusts to your new body structure.

Congratulations on the recovery.  I'm not a golfer but it's great to get back to the activities we enjoy pain free and your story will encourage others to go forward with surgery and leave the pain behind.

Rday, do you mind posting how old you are?  I’m 55 and hoping to get back into golf this summer.  Gave it up about three years ago when the pain got out of hand.  Just when I thought I was figuring my swing out!  Don’t it figure!  Here’s to many happy rounds!
