So is Mr Ron Treacy an NHS hip resurfacing surgeon? If so I’m Assuming I can email my images to his team and have them look at them. It’s nothing against the surgeon I’ve spoken to already I just want to speak to you Jose with the most experience.

Hi Fitness85, this is my first post although I have been reading this fabulous forum for a while.

I had my left hip resurfaced september 8th last year. And yes, the hospital paused for a bit that day for another reason.

I was transferred to be under the wing of Ronan Treacy in 2021, but kept putting the op off (like some others, for reasons I’ll explain in another post). This meant when I finally got to it, I was told he had retired from doing NHS work (so mid last year). Initial feeling was “I’m gutted”.

However.

His work was passed onto who was (and presumably still is) the main man now there, Mr Shakir Hussain. He did am incredible job. I am so pleased. He is a great guy and has changed my life. I will do more detail in another post.

So the short of it is, Ronan’s staff told me last April / May time he had stopped doing NHS.

Thanks for the reply. At least I now know he doesn’t work for the NHS.

Can I ask how old you were at the time of op. What were your symptoms, background etc.

Many thanks.

Hi Fitness85.

53. Struggling at 49 enough to find out if arthiritis.

Background in short is runner all life, very active. I’ve posted first part of my (quite long, sorry!) story in hip stories just a few days ago, up to the point of surgery pretty much.

Next bit to follow!

What suprised me the most last July/August, apart from having loads of hip left, and knowing it was being done on the health service, was how quickly the date came through. I think I met Mr Hussain in June and he said “september”. And it was, luckily the first op of the day.

Ah I see! I’m 37 and have been told 12-18 waiting list. I’m tempted to raise the money and go to Belgium with Mr Smett.

However I work for the emergency services so will ask soon if it can be pushed forward to perform in my job better.

12-18 weeks or months? If months is that definately for a resurfacing operation?

I still work. I don’t know if that actually figures in the decision making of who gets done when. I’d like to think it would.
