Hey everyone....

Just wanted to say, today is my one year anniversary of having my hip resurfaced with Dr. Gross in South Carolina....and life is good!

When I went for the surgery, I had realistic expectations. I thought as long as I don't have pain...that's it. But I didn't expect to get back so much range of motion that I now have...and also my body feels aligned! Sweet!

I want to thank my fellow hippies here (and before me) and Pat, who was instrumental in the information shared about resurfacing. When I went to a local ortho in 2007, I was at the point of "do something" - anything! The pain was just too much. That's when he mentioned resurfacing....then I surfed the web and found this site which helped me to have "hope", and seek out good surgeons.

You guys touch many lives here.....and I thank you :)

Hi Karen

Happy Anniversary!   ;D

Thank You for your posts.  You story will also be an inspiration for many.  Real stories from real people become real inspiration!

I hope the next year is even better.  It really does take time for our bodies and minds to heal.  Much of it comes quickly, but there is still a longer term process happening.

I wish you the very best and Thank You for your support of my website!

Karen,

Many congrats go out to you, you are someone who truly persevered in your battle against your bad hips.  I am so glad it all has worked out so well, it could not have happened to a nicer person.

Here's to hoping that you get better as the years go by.....

Hi Karen,
Isn't it just fantastic to have your life back. I always tell people that I have a second lease on life now. I'm coming up on my five months post op and I feel so good now I can imagine how good things will be at a year out. Glad things have gone so well for you.

Hi Karen,
Congratulations on hitting your 1 year anniversary!!  Your story is so inspiring and you've been so helpful and supportive to others.

So, Are you going to try snowboarding?  We've had over 125 inches in the last 2 weeks!  I'm going to enjoy a powder day tomorrow!  If you still have good snow in the east, then perhaps you should take that lesson this weekend.

Hi Jean...thanks for the kind words :)

I've decided to wait until next winter to try out snowboarding. Being a newbie to it, I think I will give my leg a little more "locking in" time (just to be safe).

Nothings wrong, I think its all mental - after so long of having a mess in there. I have way over 4x better bone density then the density normal score...but in the mean time I am back on the weights, cardio bootcamp (that's hell), WII exercises, and rowing machine. This will strengthen the hip area muscles that should benefit me attempting snowboarding.

I may even get those "crash shorts" you put under your pants too...

Like I said..I'm just being cautious. I'm so happy with my outcome, I don't want to screw it up, guess its just getting confidence that its healed now...and I should move on, right? :)

Karen,

Congratulations on reaching the one-year milestone!  It's amazing to look back and think about what your life was like before your resurfacing, isn't it?

Today marks my one-year anniversary on my second hip resurfacing (the one-year anniversary on my first was December 18th) and I share your feelings of gratitude for and appreciation of this website and its members.  Pat has and continues to do a great service to our community through surfacehippy.com ... Thanks, Pat!  And thanks to all who participate!
