On Nov. 19,2007 I had my left hip resurfaced by D. Scott  Ball at UCSD Thornton Hospital,La Jolla,CA.
I got in 30 days early due to a cancilation so I only had about 5 day window of being "anxious" but due
to prayer I was very peacefull all the way up to going under.I was put under at 1:00 and remember
waking up about 5:00 with no pain.Did not remember throat tube going in or out or the catheter going in.Day1 woke up with no pain and walked 200 feet with walker not much sleep. They removed catheter
about 3:00 and it was not bad at all.Day2 Very glad I brought ear plugs to stop the IV noise walked
about 300 feet, did not ever use the morphine button. As the Meds the DR. put inside the wound began
to wear off I was glad for OXYCODONE That Wed. afternoon I went home.DAY3 walked around house
little pain eating about half of normal.DAY4 somtimes walking a few steps before remembering to get
walker. Was getting concerned about no bowel mov. used 1 suppository and got bowel mov. in 1 hour.
DAY 5 now only use pain pill at night to sleep.DAY6 took 3/4 mile walk outside with 1 crutch DAY7 walked 1 mile. also since the surgury I have not had coffee or diet pepsi and hope to keep it that way
DAY8 I feel good this morning.

Congratulations on becoming a Surface Hippy!  Sounds like you have been doing very well.  It is good to have an pretty easy recovery.

Many of us had to take stool softners.  I took them a few days before surgery and still had problems.  That is always a problem with everyone because the anasthesia and pain meds seem to close your system down.

I hope you continue to do well.  Keep walking, but don't over do!  Always do a little less than you think you can early on so you don't get into any swelling or extra pain.

I will post your story on the Hip Story pages with a link to blog story.  If you should want to add to your own blog, I will set it up for you.  Meantime, I will just go ahead and post for you.

Good Luck and Thank you for sharing your story.  Several other people on the Yahoo Discussion group have used Dr. Ball and really like him.

You got a great Christmas present - a new BHR!
