Hi Pat - I am a 46 y.o. female who is planning hip resurfacing surgery.  I am still trying to decide on a surgeon.  I am in California and would be willing to travel if I have to so that I can have a good surgeon.  Have you heard anything about Dr. Pritchett in Seattle.  I have heard that his patients have longer recoveries, increased swelling and bruising, and a large scar.  His info. on surfacehippy has him listed at 1500 HR procedures.  This number is up there with the top Dr.s such as Su, Schmalzried.  Any insight on him would be appreciated.  I did email my xrays and he believes I am a candidate.  Thanks.

Hi Debbie,

Check out Dr. Pritchett's website.  Many of the 1500 resurfacings were done prior to the modern hip resurfacings (BHR & Conserve Plus) and such resurfacings had poor performance (metal on plastic).  He lists a 1 -2 % chance of nerve damage in the list of FAQ.  A local patient had a long term dropped foot from nerve damage after a hip resurfacing.  Nerve damage shouldn't happen.
Ask Vicky Marlow for more info about Dr. Pritchett.  Needless to say, I bypassed Seattle and flew to New York from Juneau.

Hi Stevel - Thank you for that information.  I wondered why no one has mentioned him as their surgeon with him having done so many procedures.  Still in the decision-making process.
