I've always worn running shoes for walking but I recognize that the mechanics of walking are quite different than those of running - the former utilizes a heel strike while the latter utilizes (ideally) a mid-foot strike. I've got an upcoming trip that will involve a lot of walking on city streets. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good walking shoe?

I love the Hoka One One for running, and appreciate the reduced stress on my muscles and joints. It would be great to find a walking shoe with similar cushioning.

Do you need motion control?  Have you tried some of the new Merrell minimalist type shoes for hiking?
They are supremely comfortable for walking, hiking.

I hear what you say about walking vs running.  I'm a Brooks fan for running but i am not sure if they have a walking shoe, per se.

I have been using the slip on version of Merrell's minimalist shoes during my recovery.  They are easy to get on and off and encourage a nice heel-toe motion like walking barefoot.
