I had my right BHR on May 20, 2011 so I am coming up on two years out. I did some racing last year -- if you can call what I do now racing. My longest run had been a slow, hilly 15k. And my best time was right at 8 mins per mile for a flat 5-miler. I decided to train over the winter for a half marathon associated with the Illinois Marathon in Champaign, IL on Saturday, April 27, 2013. I had done the full marathon there in 2009 and 2010 before my surgery. My concern was doing an entire 13.1 miles without stopping as in my training I stop to stretch on my long runs, probably every 3 to 4 miles. Well, I fell a bit short of my 2 hour goal. I finished in 2:03 but I was pretty happy as I ran the whole thing and my last mile was my fastest of the day -- 8:58 pace. I held my desired 9:09 pace for the first 7 miles but then had to back off a bit just to make sure I finished. I took a day of rest and was back out Monday for an easy 3 mile run. I am just very, very grateful to my surgeon Dr. Ryan Nunely of Barnes Hospital St. Louis and the BHR device that I am able to run regularly again. At 55 I know I won't be that fast, but I also know it's an important part of my life. I never take it for granted now, and even a bad run is a very good one.

Congrats, matulis!   You have a great attitude.  And I bet you can run that sub -2 on your next half with a little more training (assuming that is important to you  ;) )
