My doctor who I want to do my resurfacing is out of network, so the coverage is only 60%.

Does anyone have an estimate of doctor fees for the surgery?

The hospital where the surgery is done is in-network at 90%.

What do you think my out of pocket costs would be?  Rough estimate....

Thanks

De Smet charges about 2,000 Euros for surgeon fees, so 40% would be 800 Euros. Hospital fees, on the other hand, at least in the US, tend to be very high. On this site I saw someone complain that the hospital fees for the surgery were 80 grand (10% would be 8,000 dollars) so maybe you should get an estimate before you commit.

Www.mcminncentre.co.uk cite approx GBP14k all in.

Surgeons fee is GBP2400, anaesthetist GBP800 I believe, the rest is implant and hospital stay (5 nights).

I am on Medicare and my surgeon Dr. Gross, understandably, does not accept Medicare patients.  I so much wanted him to do my surgery that I paid his fee ($4000) and his assistant's fee ($1000) out of pocket.  So this should give you your worst case scenario with him ($2000@60%).  Well worth it IMO to get him.  The hospital he uses accepts Medicare patients so I lucked out there.  You should give Providence NE Orthopedic Hospital a call and see how you would fare there with your plan.

If I remember correctly, seems my hip's entire cost (thank goodness I had great insurance) was about $40,000.
Good luck.  5 years, soon and I'm going strong.
If you can, try to base your decision on the BEST and most experienced surgeon.
