I had my right hip resurfaced in 2008. At that time they would resurface for people over 50.  I am 65 and my left hip will need to be done in the next year maybe two.  My health and fitness level is very good but I don't think they will resurface.  Does anyone have resurface on one side and a total on the other.  Should I get a total on the left side or find a way to get a resurface

Hi  There are a handful of people that have both a THR and HR.  From what I read, they say they can't tell the difference.  I am sorry, I don't know where to find the stories off hand.  Maybe someone here will post.

I have a THR on the left and an HR on the right. The THR was revision from a rather complicated botched surgery, so it's not exactly the same as a first THR. However the THR is working quite well after five years. De Smet is particularly proud of his THR system and he told me personally that if the hip surgery was for him he wasn't sure if he would go for his THR or the HR. At any rate I have a little bit more flexibility and strength in the HR side, but that could be because of the revision. Here are a couple of bouldering videos showing both hips in action. Both boulders are very hip intensive. In particular, the second video shows the left (revised THR) hip in action on hard hip moves and you can see it is working very well for me.
