Hi all,

I’m 37 and I’ve had a scope operation and it didn’t work a year ago and I was going to put up with the pain until I was 40, after this last two weeks I’ve said enough I’m deciding asp what to do.

My surgeon does not recommend hip Resurfacing, so I have two options near me Mr Roa who I’m seeing Monday night or Mr Ganapathi, I live in Wrexham north wales and have noticed someone had a op in Oswestry where I had my scope.

I have angio neurotic endema and get allergic reactions, basically my immune system doesn’t work properly.  So I’m nervous about the metal issue.

I’m normally very active and need my life back so this is the start of my story!

Good luck on your journey and decision.

I *waited* until 40 for a few different reasons and in hindsight waited a few years too long. You'll likely read that a lot on this forum, but its not always easy to know when the time is right.

Hopefully someone more familiar with your health system will chime in, but you're on a good path asking questions and looking for options.

Thanks Bernie, My consultant was totally against resurfacing and that it had a big failure rate. That’s his opinion anyway.

Everybody different so no real yes or no answers, just got to grow some and get it done 😂

I was scheduled for a resurfacing with Mr Ganapathi until I mentioned his lack of hip resurfacing experience on this forum. He'd only done 20 at the time and was using a german ceramic device that later had significant problems. I believe he's experienced in THR's though, as a friend had one and is happy with the outcome.

Thanks to Dannywayoflife and MikeD (Hernanu and einreb too) , I got a 2nd opinion with Mr Treacy and took the correct path for me.

Your medical condition sounds special so perhaps you need to get a 2nd opinion from one of the top guys - try Mr McMinn or Mr Treacy - a private consultation will be worth every penny and help you to make the right decision for you and your future.

Good luck.

Hi Dav,

I also had my BHR with Mr Treacy back in March.  His joint survival rates are 98% at 20 years with half of the 2% failing in the first 6 weeks.  So your consultant is not correct as the surgery has a low failure rate with the experienced surgeons.
