Experiences 7 months after op?

I had my Hip resurfacing in Jan 22 and rehab plan has gone well such that I started to run again (just 5k once a week) after 6 months. However I notice now that I have muscle soreness down the front and outside of the thigh. The movement of the joint is fine but just feels like an ongoing muscle pull. Not painful as such but just constantly noticeable and more so when I run.  Not going away despite a week between runs. Now on my 4th run and is worrying me a bit that something is not right. Does this sound normal? Is anyone else experiencing similar?

My resurfaced hip is coming up to 8 years old, I started running at around 9 weeks and have had no problems - but I can always feel that hip being 'different'. I have a THR on the other hip, 5 years old, with an identical operation (lateral incision, large wound) and cannot tell that it is ceramic. The BHR hip has a bit less range of movement/flexibility but that is my stronger leg. I don't think there will be anything wrong with your hip, just take it steady for now. I took a year to get to run a half marathon but was running 5k parkruns every Saturday - my BHR has just qualified for its own 250 shirt!

Pete, did surgeon ok running on a hip replacement? Do you have a dual mobility?

Hi Larry,

Same surgeon did my BHR and this was supposed to be another but the femoral neck broke during fitting the cap. The Zimmer ceramic on ceramic he fitted instead came with his comment "you won't be able to break it, just carry on doing what you have been doing" - he knew I was going to run and climb and bike etc because that was why I had sought him out to fit my BHR in the first place! No, its not dual-motion but I don't feel it restricts me in any way, and it feels better than the BHR leg. I do know a climber in France who has dual-motion hips and is very happy with them - they fit them to climbers and skiers to avoid risk of dislocations but I have no qualms about my device. There are about 1500 of us on Hiprunner that run on THR devices, mostly without problems.

Thanks Pete. Good to hear your positive story and I was not aware of anyone doing any sort of running with a THR! I’ll keep at it, but gently for the moment
