Hello,
I am a 54 year old male and heavily active prior to surgery. Played professional squash and crossfitter until hip became too debilitating
Just wanted to share my story - I had my left hip resurfaced in 2009 with Dr. Kim in Ottawa - amazing surgeon. I have been doing heavy physical activity since with no limitations. Hip xryas show no wear
Just had my right him done on May 27 and was out of hosital same day and walking without crutches the next day. Anyone else have asimilar story - maybe I'm pushing things a little, just wanted to reach out and share

That's amazing!  Congrats.

I would caution you to be more conservative than you THINK you need to be.  You could easily overdo it and cause a potentially serious problem.

Recovery speed is different for everyone, glad yours is moving along at a fantastic pace.  I would also suggest and caution that going too fast may not be the greatest thing.   I know Andy Murray (Dr Su in NY) was walking 4 days after his surgery and he was back on the Professional Tennis tour in 8 months or so.  This website has a section dedicated to athletics and sport, so you can read about it and specific recoveries.   Sounds like a great story though, keep it going and enjoy your new pain free life!

First, congratulations on what sounds like a good recovery so far. Second, you say you're walking without crutches a day after surgery, but how well are you walking? Are you hobbling? Limping badly? My guess is you're not walking normally. Your muscles still need time to heal. Right after surgery you're still so fragile. I would be concerned that with one little misstep or stumble you would fall and injure yourself. Just because you can walk without the crutches doesn't mean you should. They'll help with your gait, exhaustion, support if you do trip, and when you're out in public people will be more likely to give you a wide berth. It's great that you're on the fast side of healing, but don't forget you are still healing.
