I am 52, male - hip scope May 1 2020, labrum reconstruction, discovered osteoarthritis.

Avid distance runner.  Reduced mileage by 50% weekly, but still destroyed rest of hip in 2 years.

Live in greater Atlanta, GA - having difficulty finding surgeon for hip resurfacing, using vitamin E cross linked polyethylene liner.  Birmingham does BHR with metal to metal bearing surfaces, a good option; my personal research indicates new polyethylene may have less metallosis risk long term.

Have contaced Dr. James Pritchett in Seattle but geographically, less appealing.

Any recommendations for greater Atlanta?

Hi
Very few people are able to have hip resurfacing surgeons near them.  Particularly if you want a specific device.  Most surgeons in the US use metal on metal devices.  Dr. Gross is in SC and uses the metal on metal Biomet Cementless device.  He has done over 7000 hip resurfacings. One closer option.  He is one of the best surgeons in the world.

Hip Resurfacing is a much more difficult surgery than a THR, so there are not many really experienced surgeons.  I posted the lists above for you.
I wish you the very best.  My metal on metal BHR will be 17 years old on March 15.  Never had a problem and still don't at 78 years old.  The key to successful hip resurfacing is component placing, not necessarily the type of device.  If metal on metal is placed properly, there are very, very few problems.  If the components are not aligned properly, there is edge wear which causes metal ions over time.  It is like a mis-aligned bearing.
