** Should athletes who engage in extreme sports (e.g., parkour, skateboarding, or motocross) be encouraged to pursue hip resurfacing over total hip replacement, given the potential for higher physical demands and risk of re-injury? Or does this approach prioritize performance over long-term health?

I would say high impact sport people should consider resurfacing over total replacement (running, football etc). Its the impact that breaks stem when femur is cut. Parkour at least has lots of jumping.

Motocross and running are two of my favorite things, and after a ton of research I decided resurfacing would be the best solution if I wanted to continue to do these things.  Not only was the resurfacing supposedly more durable and more difficult to dislocate, but if you break it then the revision is a traditional full replacement.  If you break a traditional full replacement, the revision is messy.  Especially if you explode the femur with that metal rod inside.  So as best I can tell, you absolutely should get a resurfacing over a full replacement if you do these types of sports.  But if you have doubts, see a few doctors and talk to all of them.
