Dental work precautions
« on: November 09, 2009, 03:10:08 PM »
I'm close to three months after my second hip resurfacing.  My teeth have deteriorated over the last few years and I now need at least one extraction and a few fillings. Any time I had dental work after my first hip I took antibiotics an hour before the consultation.  This was on the advice of my surgeon.

On looking at some of the information on the web, it seems that any dental procedure that leads to bleeding could cause an infection.  As I said to my surgeon, in that case, I'm in danger every day - my gums can bleed every time I brush.

The whole question of post surgery infection and preventative measures seems contentious.  The consequences of an infection scare the daylights out of me and I will continue to take antibiotics before dental work and stick to a good diet and lots of antioxidants etc. to keep the immune system up.
