Dear Pat,

I indeed will start with the C plus uncemented.

I will cautiously start this and study this together with the University of Lille France.

Results only can be accepted if they are longer then 3-4 years. Nobody is there yet!! So again we have to be very cautious with results at this moment.

We know he is going to start doing them, at least one! There are lots of other questions:

Is he going to do them for everyone? Just those patients who specifically request it? Just those who he recommends?

How does the uncemented differ from the cemented? Are there any new design features? Is it HA coated?

Is there any information directly from Wright?

Are there any pictures?

Sorry Dan.  I am but the webmaster/owner of Surface Hippy.  I can only pass on information I know of.  I posted Dr. De Smet's reply.

The Wright C+ uncemented version is not FDA approved in the US, so there is no way of me knowing about it.  Dr. De Smet is in Belgium.

I guess we will wait until it is FDA approved in the US so we can learn more.  I have no way of answering all those questions you ask.  I am sorry. There are many things I don't know.  I pass on what I can learn.

I received an uncemented Wright C+ from Dr. Harlan Amstutz in LA on March 4 (11 weeks ago today). I understand that I'm the third patient of his to get the uncemented femoral component. So far, so good. In fact, I think I'm progressing more rapidly than I did 8 years ago with a hybrid C+ on the other hip. Ted

Ted,

It was reading your story that made me ask for an uncemented C+.

Seeing as you already have one, apart from no cement, do you know any differences from the standard C+?

Did you specifically ask for it, or did Dr. A recommend it for you?

Dan, The principal difference is that the inside of the cap is fully porous. It did not have an HA coating. Also, different tools were used to prepare the femoral head in order to accomplish the precise fit necessary for bone ingrowth. I didn't know it was available before Dr. Amstutz informed me. After he explained that he believed that the cement might be the weak link in hybid resurfacings at 10 plus years, I decided to give the uncemented version a try. Ted
