I just had my 5 year anniversary of my BHR with Dr. De Smet in Belgium on March 15, 2006. My hip is doing great. It has never given me any problems and I can do anything my body is capable of at 66! I was 61 when I had my BHR.
Hip Resurfacing is still an option for women. Don't let any less experinced surgeon convience you it is not. Every experienced hip resurfacing surgeon looks at each person, male or female, as an individual. They look at your bone density and determine if you are a candidate. They don't go by negative press articles and the many problems the less expeirnced surgeons had. Resurfacing is a diffuclt surgery and not every orthopedic surgeon is capable of doing the surgery. Often, if they don't have the skill, they tend to bad mouth hip resurfacing and always suggest THRs. Hip Resurfacing is still a great solution for hip problems. Stick with the top surgeons and you will find out if you are a good candidate by them reading your x-rays, not by reading negative articles.
Pat - still happy with her BHR
