Being able to walk my dogs the day I was allowed of crutches was a truly sublime pleasure, which for me was 6 weeks after surgery.  It was the first normal step towards feeling whole again.  I can completely relate to your feelings on this.

The dogs were my constant companions throughout the time at home recovering, and were well springs of good morale, companionship, and would jump up on the bed for each and every home PT exercise event.  They earned the title of Chief Therapy Assistants, and they really were that.

They are so-called "designer dogs", called Schnoodles (Schnauzer Poodle cross-- pseudo mutts really).  Great companion dogs, but poor for pulling sleds  :).  One looks like a Schnauzer, the other like a Poodle.  I'll post some pics later.

More designer dogs! Akitas - A Japanese dog prized by emperors. They were used to hunt bear and babysit the emperors many children. The white Akita, Toz just left us a few months ago (big loss) and his litter sister in the background is still with us. She is very, very old and mostly sleeps now.

Here is "Kime", my 11+ year old Akita she has had double knee surgeries; so I guess she is a honorary member of Bi-Lats.

Kime is beautiful. My Akita, Ruby is 11 + as well. That's very old for the breed. They are wonderful dogs. Very loyal. They are somewhat cat like in that they clean themselves by licking their feet. I've had 5 Akitas over the years and we are looking at other breeds that will enjoy boating and be a bit more social with other dogs.

I had never thought of Huskies as boat dogs but they look pretty happy on mslendzion's boat. We are looking at Portugese Water Dogs right now.

I love the photos of the dogs on the boat!  Great mates!

I bought a used old boat last summer and did not try taking the dogs aboard.  Think I will offer them a ride this summer.  I have 7 dogs, so I will have to choose those that I think will most like to cruise the river!

Thanks for sharing.  Here is a page about my guys  http://www.sixdogstudio.com/patsdogs.php

Pat,  you are doing lots of great animal rescue work. I loved your art work and poetry on your dog site too. Very well done.

Luanna,
Love the dogs. They are beautiful. Sorry for your loss  it is sad  We lost 2 huskeys last year, mother and daughter, 13 and 15 yrs old. It is a great loss. We replaced with two more, the young ones are 1.5 years and the older one is 11.  They love the water and swim quite a bit in the summer.

Double,
You dog is equally as cute. The Akita looks similar to the huskey. Maybe the undercoat and cute fluffiness.

Pat,
You have a great heart. All your kids are so cute. They all look very well mannered and love able.  Thank you for saving them. They will love your boat. They will make boating even more enjoyable.

Thank you, Pat for your collie/mixes rescues!!  They and your art are beautiful.  I believe there is a special place for all our loved companions far beyond Rainbow bridge.

I know I've lived a good life by all the dogs I've found and returned to their owners and by all the light I've basked in emanating from both people I don't know and from the people I know well.  Of these two chief pleasures, knowing I've treated dogs and animals well makes me feel like my life's had meaning.

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.

Beautiful pics. They just look like they belong in the woods with the snow. You could just put on a pair of cross country skiis and let them pull you around!!! A new PT treatment modality. :)
