HR to THR
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:41:00 PM »
This is a little academic really as my bhr is only 5 weeks old but i just wondered in the event of a revision to thr can they use any thr device or do they generally have to use a special one?
Like I say a little academic really just interested in the whole subject really

Everything I've read, doesn't have any specifics on the type of THR one would go to if need be.  I would think the femoral side wouldn't matter, because the femur comes off just below the trochanter.  On the acetab side I would think there may be some potential for needing something specific, because you have less material to work with.  However, they can revise just the cup and put in the same thing after cleaning up metallosis on HRs, without going to THR, so maybe nothing special is needed on that side, either.  Interesting question.

Yeah it just interested me. I'm hoping my hr lasts the rest of my life but you never know.
One thing hopefully is for sure by the time my bhr loosens (if it ever does) technology will have moved on hopefully a long way! I just wondered with all these Gucci new short stem thrs like the mini hip, silent hip and others if they were precluded for a hr revision?
Like I say I'm hoping my bhr out lives me but I've kinda now got the hip resurfacing bug! And am just interested in the whole subject.
