Grinding Noise
« on: December 22, 2011, 11:14:09 PM »
The past two evenings I've noticed a very faint grinding noise coming from my left hip.

It's very, very faint, almost unnoticeable, and it's really more of a crinkling sound, like paper or walking on dry leaves, than grinding.  Plus I don't feel any vibration or anything.  Both times it appeared just after getting home from work as I was changing into shorts for a workout on the rowing machine.  When I heard it yesterday I just thought it was my shorts or maybe my shoes, but it appeared again tonight and I took of my shorts and then my shoes and it was still there.

I'm thinking that a little dehydradion and lack of movement may be contributing to this.  I have a 40 minute drive home after sitting in my office for 9 hours.  It went away both times after my workout.  I'm not too worried at this point but it's a little disconcerting.  Anybody else out there have any similar experience?

Not had anything like that yet as only had mine 43 days now. But from what I've read it does need to move to create the full fluid film lubrication. Your right dehydration may well exasperate the issue. I'm looking at turning to rowing to form a large part of my new phys regimen when I'm able to get back in the gym!

Is it getting better now, FibrMike?  I'm drinking water like it's out of a college beer bong.

Yes, it's gone and I'm more than an little embarrassed about the whole thing, because it turns out it wasn't even my hip making the noise.  It was mostly my paranoia.

 :-[

When I row I usually wear a polyester microfiber shirt, and I have a heart rate monitor that straps across my chest.  The elastic hooks together with an "S" shaped hook under my left arm and there's a small fabric tag where the hook is.  It turns out that the polyester dragging over the tag as I walked or bent over was making the noise which, from my ears' point of view was coming from the direction of my hip.  It was faint enough that it was very hard to tell exactly where it was coming from.  Like I said above, I tried taking off my shorts and then my shoes to isolate the sound but didn't think to take off my shirt and walk around completely naked.
 ;D

So...false alarm.  Keep drinking the water though, it can only be good.

And, Merry Christmas everybody!!  The gift of no pain is the best one I've had in a long time.

Yes, I remember your story hernan.

Very similar.

I guess it just shows how we tend to become hyperaware when we have so much expensive hardware embedded in our bodies.

Given that the currently assessed monetary, value for all human body elements is about $4 (please apply proper exchange rates), we are about $10000 per hip appreciated in value. I feel especially valuable as a bi hippy; no wonder we're more paranoid...
