I got a completely different vibe from Dr. Engh. He definitely believes in the surgery but honestly tells you all of the pros and cons. I had a very difficult situation whereas I am a small female, was bone on bone, had AVN, large cysts, etc. He honestly told me the pros and cons of each surgery, BHR or total hip, but left the decision up to me because he said he could do either. There was always the possibility that it could be a THR once he got in there. I asked him how many times that had happened and he said none.
As far as his numbers, I might have been the one to say he had performed 1000 and I received that number from one of the fellows at the office. I can check and get an exact number from his nurse if necessary. But he definitely believes in the surgery. One of the fellows was surprised given my complications that he agreed to a BHR for me. With that said, they said he wouldn't have performed it if he didn't think it would be a success. He knew he could handle it.
Sorry you got a different vibe from him and had to travel to SC. I don't regret my decision whatsoever. I am pain free, don't limp, will be back racing this year, and my quality of life is back to a 10. I feel much younger than 50.
