I was cleared to ride the stationary bike at three weeks and have done so every other day. No clunking. I suggest you spin with little resistance and avoid the big rings for a few days. Ice afterwards. You will experience some minor swelling and tightness at first but it goes away after the first few rides. You will enjoy the range of motion.

Be very careful about getting on and off the bike. It's a challenge and you can injure yourself if you fall. Have something to help you step up and step dow.

You are going to enjoy getting back in the saddle! Stay hydrated and ave fun. My spirited were lifted when I was cleared to ride again. You'll be smiling!

There may be a little clunking everyone is different. You will want the seat as high as is safe for you ie so your knees don't hyperextend, this means that your not trying to force the hip to flex too much

My surgeon allowed the stationary bike early on, I managed to get on it 8 days post op, couldn't reach the hoods yet and just turned the pedals with no resistance. I rode with flat shoes (no cleats) for the first week and slowly increased time and resistance.

ibbski-

I know what you mean.  Even after months of riding the bike, I still look down and marvel at the straight tracking my leg makes.

Best wishes.

Pay attention to your body. I'm at 11 months on my first and just had my second BHR.  Last month i did the Spinererval 13.0 Tough Love session on a trainer with some Tri Buddies. I wasn't able to pul out the watts because of my unoperated leg but the op leg held strong.

Here's how I started: Week 4 - Week 8. no more than 45 minutes on stationary cycle
Weeks 8 - 12, no more than 1 hour
After week 12 I opened it up to three hours.

HEre's what I learned:
-Every now and then my hip would yell "WTF are you doing?" I would stop pack my stuff and go home. NEVER push it hard! Listen to your body!
-High spins hurt more than hard spins.
-NEver underestimate the benefit on one leg cycling drills
-Mix it up cycle for 15 min and get off and hold standing chair for a minute than cycle again. Helped my build my leg strength.

I plan on doing the exact same thing this go round. I start in three more weeks.
- Peace, Hip
