How Much Mojo Did you Get Back 30 Days post op?
« on: January 18, 2012, 11:46:33 PM »
Hey Hippies and Phreaks TM ! (Post Hip Resurfacing Energy Activated Kinetics)

How much mojo did you get back after 30 days post hip resurfacing?  I would love to see all the early days of how each and every person's life changed by the One Month Mark Post Op.  Will you please take a moment and share with me your 30 Day Post Op changes for the better, share with the all the other under 30 day post op newbies, and share your milestones at the 30 Day Post Op Mark with all the thousands who visit Surface Hippy that are at the thinking about getting their hip resurfaced stage?

30 Days Ago Today, I had my Bilateral Hip Resurfacing, BHR, with an amazing specialist, Dr. Philip Schmitt at http://www.wefixbones.net/doctors/philip-thomas-schmitt-do/, who trained with the inventor out of Birmingham, England, and who did my bilateral hip resurfacing on the same day on December 20th.  This innovative surgical procedure lets you keep your own hip parts and simply covers them with metal, so you can walk without pain, run, do yoga, anything and everything you want to do, AND I can also do my husband's personal favorite, housework all day!

I'm continuing to live my life at an amazing pace; I had a lot of errands today and realized I was out and about today for over 4 hours!! I pretty much am walking around with a permanent smile on my face now and sappily thankful on the hour because I'm no longer imprisoned. I LOVE not being on house arrest!

Next week, I'm scheduled to up my PT to 5 days a week: working out and getting deep tissue massage on both hips (which look GREAT by the way!!) on Mon, Wed, & Friday's, and Pool PT on Tues and Thursdays. I plan to go back to work at the end of March; that will be Hubs last day @ Big World Company and the first day he starts working for himself. I do believe he's going to wildly succeed because he's brilliant and a relentless guy. (He and I have that in common - the relentless part which leads to epic spats - and an acceptance that we both think the other one is totally wrong 100% of the time!:)  If for some reason, Hubs's business doesn't pan out financially, he has headhunter's breaking down his door, so we are going to be excellent regardless of which fork in the road we find ourselves on.

We are having fun again! Both of us feel like we've been given a second chance, and we are thrilled with how we are coming together like never before. I know these are all small potatoes, but I really am enjoying the hell out of the potatoes!

Thank you, Universe, (Lord), and thank you who take a moment to let us glimpse how your life has changed so much, even at the 30 day mark post op! 8)

Have a great weekend with your hips; I know I will!

I just checked and at 32 days I walked for and hour and was able to sit up from a kitchen chair with now hands.  Now, at 8 weeks, I'm still sore most afternoons but if I wasn't pushing it everyday and just relaxed, I'd probably feel fully recovered.

I never lost my Mojo, I've been rocking this recovery since day 1!

At one month I did the following:

A mile walk on a hilly course in the morning.
At lunch I went to the pull and swam 1200 yards with pull buoy and then aqua jogged for 33 minutes.
A mile walk in the evening on the same course.
Did my exercises and Triggerpoint at night.

I worked all day and iced off and on.

Dan

P.S.  That was a fun exercise to go back and read my blog.  I need to do that from time to time.

How do you all find your walking at the 30 day mark?
Is it fairly straight or are you still limping a bit?
I've not had mine done yet-should be around June/July but I've been getting plenty of info from Danny.
I'd be interested in how different it feels, walking on the new hip as I can't remember when I last walked properly.

I saw a huge improvement in walking speed, stride length and overall strength from 4 weeks to 6 weeks.  By 6 weeks I was able to walk up and down hills and really begin to feel like I could fitness walk vs. just walk.  I was walking pretty much limp free by four weeks just not really strong. I also became able wear heeled shoes (at work....I'm female.) at just past 4 weeks.  Just short of 6 weeks I was cleared to do the elliptical which I am now adding to my walking on alternate days (30 minutes of elliptical, alternate days with walking everyday).  New hip feels so smooth when compared to my other hip, which is healthy, but has more miles on it!  I feel like I could do more but as you read here, take it slow as everything is healing (I am just at about 6 1/2 weeks now).

I had a slight limp up to 6 weeks on both hips.  The right was little faster to recover early on, but I think I slowed down the progress by walking too much at 2 weeks.

As far as mojo, I think I wasn't quite mojo'ing til about 6 weeks.  That's a pretty standard reference point that folks talk about.  A lot of that might have to do with the lifting of posterier restrictions, but I think it's also a fairly common point for folks to start noticing that they aren't always thinking about the hip.  However, everyone has different rates of recovery.

Oh Tin!  I wasn't thinking HoJo when I asked about Mojo :P!

I definitely started with the HoJo at around six weeks too!

I hope your Monday is going well and you have lots of good things happen this week.
