One thing after another!
« on: January 31, 2012, 06:41:18 PM »
Well a few days ago I noticed what I thought was a lump in my right butt cheek. I didn't really think anything of it. Then today I woke up and it was sore to the touch. This got me thinking. As the day wore on it was itching which I thought was unusual. Then I noticed heat coming from it! This set alarm bells ringing and I knew straight away what it was! An abscess. So anyway I've just got back from A&E saw a Dr there who looked at it and said it's way too big and way too deep for him to drain he said I need it surgically removing! So he has given me a huge dose of antibiotic and I've now got to see my stupid gp tomorrow to be referred to the surgical team next week! Just never rains it pours!!

Sorry to hear, best wishes for a quick and simple resolution.  Hopefully just a bump in the road.

That really sucks.  I suppose that would be one of those complications they warn you about.  Maybe?  Sorry dude.  It could be worse.

Too bad Danny, I had one of those taken out when I was fourteen. It was painful before being taken out, but pretty quickly healed afterwards.

Danny,
Sorry. Hope the procedure to remove it is easy. Glad you got an antibiotic. That's good that you caught it early.

Thanks everyone! Tin I don't think it's anything to do with my op or treatment the doc said one of the most common causes is in growing hairs!
I'm really not looking forward to seeing my stupid gp though. I really can't stand the bloke and I'm sure he feels the same about me! I'm sure he'll try and mug me off some how!

Just seen my wonderful (please note the sarcasm there) and as predicted he doesn't think there's anything wrong. He admits theres a rather large lump in my glute which is warm and painful to me but he says it's not an abscess. But I should finish my antibiotic's. The mind truly boggles as to how some people can become medical professionals!

Horse doc. Nope as far as my gp is concerned I just have a massive lump in my glute that's nothing to worry about as far as he is concerned. He is a joke! I ain't no doc but my symptoms fit that it's a abcess the doc in a&e said it is and my gp doesn't know what it is but won't do anything! This is the same bloke that said I didn't have arthritis in my hip even though he had a surgical report in front of him saying I did! The man just makes me so angry!

I had an abscess drained 5 years ago as a matter of urgency - I was running a fever for a week and chewing on aspirin and finally gave in and saw my doctor. He booked me in for an emergency op straight away  - he warned me I was in danger of getting blood poisoning if I left it any longer. The reason I left it so long was that it was close to my rectum and I was embarrassed ! After being inspected several times before and after the op I soon lost any worry about modesty !

I'm nonplussed about the resistance to draining the thing... what is the deal?
